A vehicle lamp assembly comprises a lamp housing, a lens, and a closeout sub-assembly. The closeout sub-assembly comprises a closeout and a template attached to the closeout. The closeout sub-assembly is created by forming the closeout around the outer periphery of the template such that the outer portion of the closeout is located adjacent to and outside of the peripheral edge of the template. The vehicle lamp assembly is created by affixing the closeout sub-assembly to the outer periphery of the inner surface of the lens and attaching the lens to the housing such that the closeout sub-assembly is located between the lens and the housing and such that the outer portion of the closeout is located adjacent to and outside of the peripheral edge of the lens.

Automotive lamp closeout and method of constructing same

A headlamp adjuster is provided which, in a preferred embodiment, includes a mounting panel connected to the vehicle with an aperture and upper and lower ends providing linearly aligned cylindrical surfaces facing the vehicle; a housing fixably connected with upper and lower rods for pivotal entrapment in the cylindrical surfaces of the mounting panel, allowing pivotal movement of the housing with respect to the vehicle panel; a drive screw mounted by the housing and projecting therefrom having an end with a ball pivotally connected to the headlamp in a nonrotational fashion; a first gear with a connected bushing mounted within the housing, the first gear threadably encircling the drive screw being formulated from a nonmetallic material having a bore providing an interference fit with the drive screw, the rotation of the first gear causing translational movement of the drive screw; and a second gear mounted within the housing and held in position by the bushing of the first gear, the second gear being enmeshed with the first gear for imparting a torque to the first gear and the second gear having fixably attached thereto an input shaft extending from the housing for receipt of torsional input to the second gear.

Vehicle headlamp adjuster with pivoting housing

A ball and socket joint arrangement for mounting a vehicle headlamp assembly to a vehicle is provided which in a preferred embodiment includes a body connected with the headlamp assembly and having an interior spheroid aperture intersected by first and second apertures with a plug in the second aperture, a portion of the plug forming the spheroid aperture; a ball for pivotally mounting within the body spheroid aperture having pivotal motion on at least two axes, the ball having a bore generally aligned with the first aperture and a circumferential groove, the circumferential groove forming a slot with the bore in two geometrically spaced locations; a rod connected with the vehicle for insertion into the bore of the ball and having a circumferential groove aligned with the circumferential groove of the ball; and an omega spring mounted within the circumferential groove of the ball retaining the rod to the ball after insertion of the rod into the bore of the ball by projecting into the slot of the ball and locating within the circumferential groove of the rod.
