A polymer is provided that preferably includes at least one unsaturated cycloaliphatic group. In one embodiment, the polymer is combined with an optional crosslinker and an optional carrier to form a coating composition suitable for use in coating articles such as packaging articles. In one embodiment, the polymer has at least one unsaturated cycloaliphatic group that is at least bicyclic.

The present technology provides a heteroatom-containing polycarbonate polyfunctional-vinyl ether molecule of formula (I) and processes of preparing thereof. A process for preparing a hyperbranched polycarbonate polyol includes reacting a polyfunctional alcohol and an ester or carbonate in the presence of a catalyst and then heating the reaction mixture under azeotropic reflux conditions to form an alcohol or water. The alcohol or water by-product is then removed from the reaction mixture, thereby pushing the reaction forward.

A photoinitiator of Formula I includes a benzophenone moiety, a nitrogen-containing moiety (NCM) covalently bonded to the benzophenone moiety, and an unsaturated polymerizable moiety (PM) covalently bonded to the nitrogen-containing moiety. The unsaturated polymerizable moiety includes an acrylate group or a methacrylate group.

A photoinitiator includes a benzophenone moiety, a nitrogen-containing moiety covalently bonded to the benzophenone moiety, and an unsaturated polymerizable moiety covalently bonded to the nitrogen-containing moiety. The unsaturated polymerizable moiety includes an acrylate group or a methacrylate group.

An oxygen-scavenging composition is provided that includes an oxygen-scavenging component and an oxidation catalyst. In preferred embodiments, the oxygen-scavenging composition includes a thermoplastic polymer that may optionally include the oxygen-scavenging composition as a portion thereof. In preferred embodiments, the composition is suitable for use in packaging articles.

A polymer and coating composition containing the polymer are provided that are useful in coating applications such as, for example, food or beverage packaging containers. The polymer preferably includes a backbone having one or more polycyclic groups. In one embodiment, the polymer is a polyester and, more preferably, a polyester-urethane polymer. In one embodiment, the one or more polycyclic groups is a tricyclic or higher group.

An oxygen-scavenging composition is provided that includes an oxygen-scavenging polymer and a catalyst. The oxygen-scavenging polymer, which in preferred embodiments is suitable for use in packaging articles, includes a base polymer having a backbone, and an unsaturated side chain attached to the backbone. In one embodiment, the side chain comprises an unsaturated fatty-acid.
