An improved aluminum alloy armoured cable wrap has been produced which permits the use of less aluminum alloy in the cable wrap thereby achieving lighter construction, while meeting or exceeding strength and flexibility requirements. The armoured cable wrap is made from aluminum alloy strip material formed of an aluminum alloy containing about 2.8-3.5 percent by weight Mg, about 0.25-0.70 percent by weight Mn and about 0.15-0.35 percent by weight Cr. Up to 0.5 percent by weight of Cu may also be added. The strip material is heat treated preferably to an Ultimate Tensile Strength of at least 265 MPa.

Process for improving the corrosion resistance of brazing sheet

A corrosion resistant aluminum article is described. It includes a main body portion formed of an aluminum alloy containing no more than 0.4% iron, no more than 0.15% silicon, from about 0.1% to about 0.6% copper and from about 0.7% to about 1.5% manganese. The corrosion resistance is provided by a silicon-rich band of dense precipitate formed in the alloy adjacent at least one face thereof. This band has a thickness of about 20-50 .mu.m and there is substantially less manganese in solid solution in the band than in the alloy outside the band. To form the band, a silicon-containing layer is applied to a surface of the alloy body to be protected and the composite thus formed is heat treated at a temperature of at least 550.degree. C.

Aluminum products having improved corrosion resistance

Aluminum alloy sheet constituted of an alloy containing 0.65-0.79% Cu, 0.62-0.82% Mg, and 0.60-1.0% Si, produced by the successive steps of casting, homogenizing, cold rolling and solution-heat-treating, the sheet having strength and formability suitable for forming into automotive body members and being age-hardenable under paint-baking conditions.

Aluminum alloy sheet product

An aluminum alloy electrical conductor consisting essentially of 0.07 - 0.2% Mg, 0.02 - 0.05% Zr, balance Al with minor amounts of other elements, annealed at 200.degree. - 300.degree. C to precipitate ZrAl.sub.3 and having an electrical conductivity of at least 60% IACS.
