A nested multiple panel track system supporting a desired window covering provides for a window covering assembly capable of holding even an extremely heavy window covering, and providing an efficient operation therefor.

Beveled headrail

A headrail and bracket combination is provided in which the headrail comprises a main body portion in the form of a U-shaped channel the forward wall of which is suspended from a top plate of the bracket and also restrained against forward motion, and the rear wall of the main body is supported by a rear plate of the bracket, the bracket being adapted for mounting on a window frame. An end plate is also provided for the bracket for end mounting, which end plate can be removed from view either by breaking it off or by bending it backwardly out of sight.

A semi-adjustable shade and roller combination is provided in which an essentially non-stretchable shade material is mounted on a telescoping roller made up of an outer roller and an inner roller with the shade secured to the outer roller, and the inner roller having a split plastic sleeve over it to make up for the difference in outside diameter between the inner and outer rollers, the inner roller having an enlarged flanged head.

A bracket for supporting the headrail of a venetian or pleated blind is provided with housings each having a partially open bottom and a detachable pivoting front plate to facilitate access to the interior of the bracket while mounting it on a wall, and to support the end of the headrail when the front plate is pivoted to the closed position. The housings are righthand or lefthand, but the front plate is interchangeable. The partially open bottom of the housing permits a pleated blind to be attached to one face of the headrail by means of a retaining member extending the full length of the headrail and to support the blind along a line forward of the rear of the headrail.

Adjustable drapery traverse rods provided with a motor driven means for moving master carriers utilize a uniformly perforated drive tape and sprocket combination. Because of the perforations in the drive tape, the tape does not form a smooth curve when bent. The drive sprocket is thus adapted to allow the drive tape to lie flush against the sprocket as the tape passes over the sprocket over a wide range of tape tensions and, thereby, to drive the tape smoothly and noiselessly.

Adjustable telescoping drapery traverse rods are provided with positive drive means for master carriers comprising an essentially non-stretchable perforated drive tape and toothed drive-sprocket. Apparatus is also provided for adjusting the points of connection between the master carriers and the tape from the outside of the rod after the length of the rod has been adjusted to fit a given window (or the like) opening.

A telescoping drapery traverse rod is provided with a motor drive without sacrificing any of the simple consumer installation and adjustment features of conventional draw-cord operated traverse rods. It employes a positive-drive perforated-plastic tape and sprocket combination with the tape being releasably secured to the master carriers in a manner analogous to that of the conventional draw cord arrangement.

A motor driven drapery closure is provided with means for operating the closure between defined opened and closed positions without the use of limit switches. Means are also provided to stop the operation of the motor and back it up slightly if a significant resistance is met by the closure at a point midway of its travel or as a result of coming to the designed end of its travel. Additional means are provided for operating the closure in response to means for sensing an outside ambient condition such as the level of infrared light.

A shade of adjustable width is provided in which portions can be removed by tearing along score lines, and means including pull tabs are provided whereby a portion in the margin of the shade may be removed leaving a widened opening which terminates at an apex at a given score line such that pulling adjacent portions of the shade material concentrates stress at the score line and promotes clean tearing therealong.

A two-part, telescoping curtain traverse rod is provided having an inverted U-shaped cross-section defining a slot in the underneath surface of the rod having two upstanding tracks therein. Idler curtain carriers are movable on rollers on the forward of the two tracks. Master curtain carriers are movable on rollers on the forward track and also have an extended body portion which is slidable on the rearward track. The rearward track further serves to confine a draw cord within the rod. The idler carriers are free to slide in overlapping relation with the extended body portions of the master carriers so that the spacing between curtain support points of both master and idler carriers can be made equidistant. The master carriers are further provided with means for securing the ends of the draw cord so as to fix the master carriers in the correct position within the rod for any degree of extension of the telescoping portions of the rod.

Heavy duty traverse rod and curtain support combination

A traverse rod having pulley cases at each end for the operation of a draw cord is supported by a plurality of suspension brackets intermediate of the rod ends. The pulley cases serve only as supports for the pulleys and not also as supports for the rod, and, therefore, they are of lighter than usual construction. The draw cord exits from one pulley case in the form of a loop in a direction horizontally rearwardly from the pulley case and passes over a pair of pulleys mounted adjacent to the supporting wall, whereby tension on the draw cord adds negligible strain to the support requirements of the brackets. Heavy and thick curtains are supported without disproportionate increase in size and/or strength of the rod and support components as compared to conventional rods.

Traverse rod and support combination

A drapery and support combination is provided for a slat type ('woven wood') curtain wherein spacers between the slats are connected to the support elements in such a way that, in the fully closed position of the curtain, the spacers hold the slats at the correct angle independently of the looseness of the curtain material which hinges the slats to each other. The spacers are flat and arranged in a vertical plane so as to present an attractive appearance and not to interfere with opening or closing the curtain. The end slats are adapted to pivot on a fixed axis which may be either on the centerline of the slat, or, on the outer margin of the end slat in which latter case, the end slat is supported at a second point which slides relative to the curtain rod along an arcuate path the center of which is on the pivot axis of the end slat. One or more additional slats may be added to the fixed outer margin in order to extend the curtain coverage back to a wall.

Drapery and support combination

A traverse rod curtain support combination is provided with a draw cord adapted to actuate curtain supporting master carriers through a lost-motion arrangement which permits the curtain to be drawn to a fully opened position with the curtain halves at each side to a fully closed position at the mid-point of the rod despite the presence of substantially more curtain material in one curtain half than in the other. The draw cord is arranged so that it can be adjusted relative to the master carriers externally of the rod. The combination is particularly suitable for slat type curtains (sometimes called 'woven wood'), which requires an extra slat in one curtan half and the lost motion arrangement makes it possible to provide a light-tight abutment at the mid-point of the rod when the curtain is closed as well as a compact arrangement of the curtain material at each side when the curtain is fully opened.
