A process is disclosed for producing silicone copolymers, wherein the process comprises the steps of:

Continuous manufacture of silicone copolymers via multi-stage blade-mixed plug flow tubular reactor

A continuous process for the manufacture of silicone copolymer utilizing at least one static mixing plug flow reactor, and optionally two static mixing plug flow reactors in a series or parallel. Silicone copolymers produced in accordance thereof are substantially free of unreacted hydrogen siloxane starting material and may be used without further purification. The static mixing plug flow reactor contains static mixing elements capable of creating eddies and vortices of sufficient intensity that a biphasic liquid mixture such as a hydrogen siloxane fluid and an polyether olefinic reactant, undergoes shearing of the droplets of each material so that one phase disperses into another to provide intimate contact between the two phases to allow the reaction to proceed.

Continuous manufacture of silicone copolymers via static mixing plug flow reactors

Disclosed is a continuous process for producing silicone copolymer using a series of at least one stirred-tank reactor the last of which feeds into at least one plug flow reactor, wherein the crude product stream exiting the last of said stirred-tank reactors is sufficiently homogeneous that the stream which undergoes further reaction in the plug flow reactor does not undergo phase separation.

Continuous manufacture of silicone copolymers

An improved process is provided for the preparation of siloxane-oxyalkylene and siloxane-alkyl copolymer compositions via a hydrosilation reaction in the presence of high boiling point natural vegetable oils as the reaction solvent. The reaction solvent need not be removed from the block copolymer product, and indeed is beneficial to remain with the copolymer particularly when the copolymer is used as a surfactant for polyurethane foam formulations. Soybean oil and linseed oil are the preferred high boiling natural oil solvents when the copolymer product is to be used in the preparation of the surfactants for polyurethane foams. High resiliency polyurethane foam prepared with these natural oils present in the surfactant preparation afforded improved compression sets, wet compression sets and humid aged compression sets. Additionally, the use of the surfactants made with natural oils as a reaction solvent or consequently surfactants post diluted with natural oils when employed in the preparation of polyurethane foam afforded foams with greatly reduced amounts of &ldquo;glass fogging&rdquo;.

Hydrosilation in high boiling natural oils

An improved process is provided for the preparation of siloxane-oxyalkylene and siloxane-alkyl copolymer compositions via a hydrosilation reaction in the presence of high boiling point natural vegetable oils as the reaction solvent. The reaction solvent need not be removed from the block copolymer product, and indeed is beneficial to remain with the copolymer particularly when the copolymer is used as a surfactant for polyurethane foam formulations. Continuous manufacture of silicone coploymers

Disclosed is an improved process for the manufacture of silicone containing copolymers via a hydrosilation reaction, in which the catalyzed reaction of organohydrosiloxane and olefinic polyether is carried out at between 20.degree.-120.degree. C., preferably 70.degree.-120.degree. C., under a vacuum between 750-1 mmHg. The reaction under these conditions results in a copolymer of a higher quality as compared to copolymers made by the traditional method without the benefit of a vacuum. If desired, the reaction can be taken to its clear point in a volatile compatibilizing solvent (for example toluene, xylene, or isopropyl alcohol), this solvent can then be removed from the reaction system, and another less volatile solvent, such as dipropylene glycol or polypropylene glycol, may then be added.

Vacuum process for the manufacture of siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymers

The present invention encompasses manufacturing polysiloxane polyether copolymers using esters without any hydroxyl groups thereon, organohydrogen silanes and unsaturated polyoxyalkylene polyethers. Said esters are of low volatility and high boiling point and have at least eight carbons. The process yields clear copolymer solutions and do not need to have the ester solvent stripped. Also taught are novel compositions incorporating the ester solvent to make the copolymer and the copolymer and the ester solvent.

Hydrosilation in esters without hydroxyl moieties

The invention provides an improved solventless hydrosilation process for preparing a siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymers, the improvement comprising conducting the reaction in the presence of at least one sodium metal phosphate.

Process for the preparation of siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymers

Novel poly(organophosphazene) polymers are used for the controlled release of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, herbicides, plant growth regulators and fertilizers. These polymers also act as foam control agents.

Water-soluble phosphazene polymers having pharmacological applications

An improved process is provided for the preparation of siloxane-oxyalkylene block copolymer surfactant compositions which utilized a hydrosilation reaction with high boiling point polar polyols as the reaction solvent. The reaction solvent need not be removed from the block copolymer, particularly when the block copolymer is used as a surfactant for polyurethane foam formulations. Dipropylene glycol is the preferred polar solvent and when used in the preparation of the surfactants need not be removed when the surfactants are employed in the preparation of urethane foams.

Process for the preparation of organopolysiloxane surfactants

An improved process is provided for the preparation of siloxane-oxyalkylene copolymers by a solventless process via hydrosilation of oxyethylene-rich polyethers in the presence of carboxylic acids or carboxylic acid salts as a catalyst modifier. The use of a carboxylic acid or salt prevents acetal formation through the hydroxyl groups of the polyether and/or copolymer. The use of solvent, acetal treatment and solvent stripping steps of the conventional processes are eliminated and accordingly, environmental as well as economic benefits are achieved.

A long-acting, local anesthetic, comprising a polymeric phosphazene backbone, and certain radicals having local anesthetic activity and an amino functional group on the ring of said radical through which said radical is covalently attached to the phosphazene backbone by a phosphorous-nitrogen single bond is disclosed along with medicaments containing such anesthetics. The radicals employed are 2-amino-4-picoline, benoxinate, naepaine and phenacaine.

Anesthetic polyorganophosphazenes

A long-acting, local anesthetic, comprising a polymeric phosphazene backbone, and 2-amino-4-picoline radical having local anesthetic activity and an amino functional group on the ring of said radical through which said radical is covalently attached to the phosphazene backbone by a phosphorous-nitrogen single bond is disclosed along with medicaments containing such anesthetics.

Polymer-bound dyes have been prepared by the diazotization of high polymeric [NP(OC.sub.6 H.sub.5).sub.x - (OC.sub.6 H.sub.4 NH.sub.2 -p).sub.y ]n, followed by coupling to phenol, .beta.-naphthol, 6'-NaO.sub.3 S-.beta.-naphthol, and p-aminophenylnaphthalene. These reactions were preceded by model compound studies with the cyclic trimer [NP(OC.sub.6 H.sub.4 NH.sub.2 -p-).sub.2 ].sub.3. In both cases, the aminophenoxy units were generated by reduction of 4-nitrophenoxy groups with the use of PtO.sub.2 and hydrogen. The phosphazene skeleton was unaffected by the reduction, diazotization, and diazo coupling processes. The physical characteristics of the trimers and high polymers are described.
