A cementitious composition of one embodiment, according to the present teaching, includes, but is not limited to, a Portland cement, and at least one other cement from a group comprising, but not limited to, calcium sulfoaluminate cement, a calcium aluminosilicate cement, and calcium aluminate, wherein the Portland cement has a content of at least 20 percent based on the total weight of the non-Portland hydratable cement powder, wherein the cementitious composition bonds to asphalt.

Cementitious composition with high bond strength to both asphalt and cement based materials

A hydratable cement composition which will bond to both asphalt and cementitious substrates is supplied for the repair of various surfaces. The composition comprises of a combination of Portland cement, calcium sulfoaluminate cement or calcium aluminosilicate, and an alkali metal salt activated pozzolonic powder, wherein the Portland cement content of the hydratable portion of the composition is greater than 20%. The composition is free from latex bonding agents and calcium aluminate. The composition is mixed with water to form a typical cement, mortar, or concrete consistency, placed and allowed to cure. The result is a self-adhering patch to damaged surfaces. The hydratable cement composition may also be used to fabricate items of original construction by casting into molds or forms.

Cementitious compositions in which the cementitious properties of fly-ash are carefully controlled. The cementitious compositions may be substantially free harsh acids and bases such as citric acids (&#x2248;pH 2.2) and alkali metal activators including alkali hydroxides (&#x2248;pH 12-14) and metal carbonates (&#x2248;pH 11.6). The use of these harsh chemicals creates acid base reactions during use of the products. Instead of these harsh chemicals, a citric salt, for example potassium citrate, may be used as a reaction accelerator. Boric compounds may be used as a retarder in the compositions.

A method for producing an attapulgite clay (Fuller's Earth) that significantly removes other types of clays and minerals, resulting in improved performance. A unique dispersant is used that will fully disperse the individual attapulgite particles in water such that the particles remain in suspension, and said dispersant will not fully disperse other clay and mineral species, which then can be easily separated through various techniques. The attapulgite clay may be recovered from the dispersion and dried in such a manner to produce a finely sized powder from ore, without the need for any grinding or milling operation. The dried attapulgite clay with adsorbed dispersant is redispersed in water and retain thixotropic properties.
