Various embodiments include methods for rotating a control node role among devices in a control cluster of a wireless mesh network. Methods may include assuming the control node role by a first device based on a control node assumption timing in a schedule, and transmitting periodic messages to support the wireless mesh network. Methods may further include using the schedule to identify a control node role end timing and a third device in the control cluster that will assume the control node role, transmitting the periodic messages while monitoring for an extended advertisement from the third device after the control node role end timing until the extended advertisement from the third device is received, and assuming a passive node role upon receiving the extended advertisement from the third device or continuing the control node role when no extended advertisement is received from the third device.

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media for reliable communication between a source device, and two or more sink devices. In one aspect, a sink device closest in proximity to the source device can establish a wireless data transfer with the source device. In another aspect, the sink device having the more favorable radio channel conditions can establish a wireless data transfer with the source device. In some aspects, the sink devices can forward audio data received from the source device over a secondary communication link. The audio data can be forwarded to the other sink device automatically, or upon request from the other sink device. The secondary communication link can be implemented as a magnetic communication link, or as a Bluetooth communication link.

According to various aspects and techniques to enable methods and systems for a first communication device to determine an approximate number of other communication devices that have lost contact with a host communication device. This includes determining a common future time window using a last known global time stamp and determining a transmit time within the common future time window. This also includes receiving samples that are captured during the common future time window on a predefined communication channel, as well as analyzing the received samples to estimate the total number of other communication devices.

Secure range estimates as described herein may include determining a range estimate between two Bluetooth enabled devices based, at least in part, on round trip phase measurements of wireless signals transmitted between the devices. In one example, a range estimate may include determining a first set of relative carrier measurements at a first set of frequencies, determining a second set of relative carrier measurements based on the first set at the second set of frequencies; and combining the first set and the second set to estimate a distance between the devices.

In one example, phase estimates between a single antenna of a first device and each element within the antenna array of a second device may be used to determine a residual range between the first device and the second device. In addition, an Angle of Arrival (AoA) may also be used to determine a two dimensional or three dimensional position of the second device.

Disclosed are systems, devices and methods for determining an angle of arrival (AoA) of a signal transmitted between devices. Particular implementations enable obtaining measurements of AoA from signals that are not pure tone signals. In one aspect, a reference signal may emulate one or more aspects of a packet signal as transmitted by a transmitter. An AoA of the packet signal may be determined based, at least in part, on the packet signal and the reference signal.

Methods and systems for measuring angle of arrival of signals transmitted between devices

Embodiments relate to a deployment of a master radio in conjunction with one or more slave radios. The master radio coordinates with a UE, or transmitter, to transmit a particular known set of wireless signals in a defined time window over a dedicated wireless connection between the UE and the master radio. The master radio separately coordinates with the one or more slave radios to monitor for and measure the dedicated wireless connection during the defined time window (e.g., to obtain AoA measurements, signal strength measurements, etc.). The measurements can be reported to the master radio or a separate measurement processing unit to facilitate a location determination of the UE.

Disclosed are systems, devices and methods for determining a range between devices based, at least in part, on measurements of wireless tone signals transmitted between devices. In particular, two devices may measure tone signals transmitted between the two devices for determination of a round-trip phase measurement. Obtaining multiple round-trip measurements from tone signals transmitted at different carrier frequencies may enable resolving at least some range ambiguities.
