A thermoplastic composition includes: 40 to 75 wt % of a poly(carbonate-siloxane-arylate); 5 to 45 wt % of a poly(carbonate-siloxane) present in an amount effective to provide 0.75 to 7 wt % of siloxane units; 10 to 40 wt % of a polycarbonate homopolymer; 5 to 15 wt % of an organophosphorus compound in an amount effective to provide 0.1 to 1 wt % of phosphorus; and optionally, 0.1 to 10 wt % of an additive composition. The thermoplastic composition has a melt volume flow rate of greater than 6 cm/10 min. An article molded from the thermoplastic composition has a 2-minute integrated heat release rate of less than or equal to 65 kW-min/mand a peak heat release rate of less than 65 kW/mand a notched Izod impact resistance of greater than 30 kJ/mor greater than 700 J/m.

Thermoplastic compositions, methods of their manufacture, and articles thereof

Provided are copolycarbonate compositions including a stabilizer package which comprise a phosphorous-containing acid, an ester of phosphorous-containing acid, and an organosulfonic stabilizer where the phosphorous-containing acid and the ester of a phosphorous-containing acid are present in a molar ratio of 1 to 2. The total stabilization package is for example, in the amount by weight of 4 to 32 ppm, 8 to 24 ppm, or 8 to 16 ppm and the organosulfonic stabilizer is, e.g., of 2 to 30 ppm, or 4 to 24 ppm, or 8 to 16 ppm.

Copolycarbonate compositions and articles

A polymer blend including 5 to 95 weight percent of a poly(ester-carbonate-carbonate) comprising 40 to 95 mole percent of ester units comprising low heat bisphenol groups and high heat bisphenol groups, wherein the ester units comprise 20 to 80 mole percent of the low heat bisphenol groups and 20 to 80 mole percent of the high heat bisphenol groups, based on the total moles of ester units in the poly(ester-carbonate-carbonate), and 5 to 60 mole percent of carbonate units comprising the low heat bisphenol groups and the high heat bisphenol groups, wherein the carbonate units comprise 20 to 80 mole percent of the low heat bisphenol groups and 20 to 80 mole percent of the high heat bisphenol groups, based on the total moles of carbonate units in the poly(ester-carbonate-carbonate); and 5 to 95 weight percent of a poly(etherimide), wherein the weight percent of each polymer is based on the total weight of the polymers in the blend, and a molded 0.125-inch thick ASTM tensile bar comprising the polymer blend has a haze value of less than 25% as determined according to ASTM D1003 using the color space CIE1931 with Illuminant C and a 2° observer.

Polycarbonate copolymer blends, articles formed therefrom, and methods of manufacture

A copolycarbonate includes 0.005-0.1 mole percent of sulfur-containing carbonate units derived from a sulfur-containing bisphenol monomer, 2-95 mole percent of high heat carbonate units derived from a high heat aromatic dihydroxy monomer, and 5-98 mole percent of a low heat carbonate units derived from a low heat aromatic monomer, each based on the sum of the moles of the carbonate units; and optionally, thioether carbonyl endcaps of the formula &#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)-L-S&#x2014;R, wherein L is a Caliphatic or aromatic linking group and R is a Calkyl, Caryl, or Carylalkylene; wherein the sulfur content of the high heat copolycarbonate in the absence of the thioether endcaps is from 5-20 parts per million by weight.

Sulfur-stabilized copolycarbonates and articles formed therefrom

Various embodiments disclosed relate to a composition. The present invention includes a polycarbonate component and a carbon fiber component including an activated surface. An interface can be formed between the polycarbonate component and the carbon fiber component.

Polycarbonates with improved carbon fiber-matrix interphase

A filament for use in forming a support structure in fused filament fabrication, the filament comprising an amorphous, thermoplastic resin further comprising Bisphenol Isophorone carbonate units and Bisphenol A carbonate units, wherein the Bisphenol Isophorone carbonate units are 30 to 50 mole percent of the total of Bisphenol A carbonate units and Bisphenol Isophorone carbonate units in the resin, and wherein the resin has a glass transition temperature from 165&#xb0; C. to 200&#xb0; C. The composition used to form the support filament exhibits a desirable combination of filament formability, printability, lack of significant oozing from the printer nozzle, and good ease of mechanical separation from the build material at room temperature after printing.

3D printing heat resistant support material

An article includes at least two contiguous layers containing a composition that includes a branched polycarbonate, optionally a linear carbonate-containing polymer, and 0 to less than 5 weight percent filler. The composition is characterized by an average mole percent branching of 0.06 to 2.4 mole percent, which is calculated as 100 times moles of branched carbonate units in the branched polycarbonate divided by the sum of moles of linear carbonate units in the branched polycarbonate and the optional linear carbonate-containing polymer. The composition is further characterized by a melt flow rate of 1 to 20 grams per 10 minutes, determined according to ASTM D1238-13 at 300&#xb0; C. and 1.2 kilogram load. Also described is a method of additive manufacturing utilizing the composition.

Additively manufactured article and method

A copolycarbonate optical article comprises a polycarbonate composition including: a copolycarbonate having: 2 to 60 mol % of phthalimidine carbonate units, 2 to 90 mol % of high heat carbonate units, and optionally 2 to 60 mol % of bisphenol A carbonate units. The copolycarbonate has less than 100 ppm of each of phthalimidine, high heat bisphenol, and bisphenol A monomers, and less than 5 ppm of various ions, and is prepared from monomers each having a purity of at least 99.6%. The polycarbonate composition has a glass transition temperature of 200&#xb0; C. to and a yellowness index of less than 30.

Phthalimidine copolycarbonate optical articles, articles formed therefrom, and methods of manufacture

Poly(ester-carbonate)s, articles formed therefrom, and methods of manufacture

A melt-blend composition is formed from, based on the total weight of the melt-blend composition, 0 to 5 wt. % of an additive; and 95 to 100 wt. % of a polymer composition, wherein the polymer composition comprises, based on the total weight of the polymer composition, 5 to 95 wt. % of a first copolycarbonate consisting of bisphenol A carbonate units and first additional carbonate units of the formula (II), (II), (III), (IV) or (V); 95 to 5 wt. % of a second copolycarbonate consisting of bisphenol A carbonate units and second additional carbonate units (phthalimidine carbonate units); and 0.001 to 0.1 wt. % of a transesterification catalyst, wherein the melt-blended composition has a haze of less than 15% and a transmission greater than 75%, each measured using the color space CIE1931 (Illuminant C and a 2&#xb0; observer) at a 3.2 mm thickness. 

Compatibilized compositions, articles formed therefrom, and methods of manufacture

Disclosed herein are methods that includes using a water-degradable (e.g., autoclavable) support material together with a high-heat build material (e.g., polyetherimide or PEI). When the support material is autoclaved for a period of time, the support material becomes brittle and then disintegrates into powder and therefore can be removed from the model or build material, leaving behind a part formed from the model material that includes features (e.g., cavities, channels, etc.) formerly occupied by the support material.

Sacrificial high heat support materials for additive manufacturing processes

A poly(ester-carbonate) copolymer comprises carbonate units of the formula (I); and ester units of the formula (II) wherein: T is a Calkylene, a Ccycloalkylene, or a Carylene; and R1 and J are each independently a bisphenol A divalent group and a phthalimidine divalent group, provided that the phthalimidine divalent group is present in an amount of 40 to 50 mol % based on the total moles of the bisphenol A divalent groups and the Cdivalent group, and the ester units are present in an amount of 40 to 60 mol % based on the sum of the moles of the carbonate units and the ester units; and wherein the poly(ester-carbonate) copolymer has a weight average molecular weight of 18,000 to 24,000 Daltons; and the composition has a Tg of 210 to 235&#xb0; C. and a melt viscosity of less than 1050 Pa-s at 644 secand 350&#xb0; C.

A laser weldable composition comprising a polyester component, 5 to 50 weight percent of a filler; and 10 to 30 wt. % of a poly(ester-carbonate) copolymer comprising carbonate units and ester units of the formula (I) wherein: T is a Calkylene, a Ccycloalkylene, or a Carylene; Rand J are each independently (a) a bisphenol A divalent group, and (b) a Cor higher divalent group (b1), (b2), or (b1) and (b2), wherein (b1) is a phthalimidine divalent group, and (b2) is a third divalent group, wherein the Cor higher divalent group (b1), (b2) or a combination of (b1) and (b2) is present in an amount of 40 mol % to 50 mol % based on the total moles of the bisphenol A divalent groups and the Cor higher divalent group; and the composition, when molded into an article having a 2.0 mm thickness, provides a near infrared transmission at 960 nanometers of greater than 50% and a thermal resistance according to HDT 1.8 MPa flat (ISO 75/Af) is greater than 160&#xb0; C.

A thermoplastic composition including a polycarbonatesiloxane-arylate; a phthalone compound; and optionally an additional component different from the polycarbonatesiloxane-arylate and the phthalone compound; wherein the phthalone compound has a formula: wherein Zrepresents the atoms necessary to complete a 9- to 13-membered single or fused aromatic ring structure, Zrepresents the atoms necessary to complete a pyridine or quinoline ring, each Rand each Rare independently halogen, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, an aromatic or aliphatic thioether group, an aromatic or aliphatic carboxylic acid ester group, or an aromatic or aliphatic amide group, a is an integer from 0 to 6, b is an integer from 0 to 4, n is 1 or 2, and X is present only if n=2 and is a single bond or a divalent organic radical bonded to the Zring structure through an ether, ketone, or thio linkage.

A poly(ester-carbonate) copolymer comprises carbonate units of the formula (I); and ester units of the formula (II) wherein: T is a Calkylene, a Ccycloalkylene, or a Carylene; and Rand J are each independently (a) a bisphenol A divalent group and (b) a Cor higher divalent group (b), wherein the Cor higher divalent group is present in an amount of 40 to 50 mol %; the ester units are present in an amount of 40 to 60 mol %; the poly(ester-carbonate) copolymer has a weight average molecular weight of 18,000 to 24,000 Daltons; and a sample of the composition has a glass transition temperature of 210&#xb0; C. to 235&#xb0; C. as determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as per ASTM D3418 with a 20&#xb0; C./min heating rate; and a melt viscosity of less than 1050 Pa-s at 644 sec-1 and 350&#xb0; C., determined according to ISO 11443.
