A dual purpose power pedestal includes a housing having a base, a body extending upwardly from the base, and a top disposed opposite the base, the body including a first side and a second side; a recreational vehicle (RV) connection mechanism disposed on the first side of the body and comprising a power receptacle and a first circuit interrupter, the RV connection mechanism being structured to be coupled to a power source and provide power to at least an RV; and an electric vehicle (EV) connection mechanism disposed on the second side of the body and comprising at least a frame, an EV connector, an EV cable, and an EV charger that is disposed within the frame and includes at least a controller and a second circuit interrupter, the EV charger being structured to charge an EV based on a signal from the controller.

Dual purpose power pedestal

A pedestal has two sides that are opposite one another and to which various charging boxes can be mounted and electrically connected. For instance, the pedestal can have the same charging boxes mounted to the two sides and electrically connected with a power system upon which the pedestal is positioned. Instead, two different charging boxes can be mounted to the two sides. Importantly, either or both charging boxes can be easily removed by appropriate personnel and alternatively replaced with other charging boxes if, for instance, the market for needing specific electrical charging has changed or if the population of electrical vehicles needing electrical charging has grown in a new direction, by way of example.

Power pedestal

Power pedestals that are configured with an internal metering assembly that includes a meter socket allows for remote monitoring of power usage. The power pedestals also include a display that can display information regarding parameters of the power pedestals and/or current users. The power pedestals can include transceivers and can wirelessly communicate with mobile devices of various users and a remote monitoring station.

Power pedestals with individual per side ground fault mains allow for service of breakers and receptacles without interrupting power to adjacent in-use power circuits and or boaters. In turn, ground fault mains eliminate the need for individual ground fault breakers tied to each receptacle. The power pedestals also allow for use of reverse Y adapters in the vessel to pedestal connection and allow for serviceability of single side or whole pedestal without disconnecting power to a string of pedestals on a loop feed circuits and can reduce overall cost of maintenance by eliminating costly individual ground fault breakers per-shore power connection.

A power pedestal is described. The power pedestal includes a plurality of receptacles that are configured to connect to external devices. The plurality of receptacles includes a first receptacle and a second receptacle of the plurality of receptacles. The first receptacle and the second receptacle are electrically interlocked with one another. The power pedestal includes a first circuit breaker connected to the first receptacle and a second circuit breaker connected to the second receptacle, and a shunt trip circuit that is configured to trip the first circuit breaker to disable power to the first receptacle of the power pedestal, responsive to the second circuit breaker associated with the second receptacle of the power pedestal being in an active state. A connector is for a charging station. The charging station has a charging box having a signaling mechanism. The connector includes an electrical receptacle structured to be electrically connected to the signaling mechanism; a housing coupled to the electrical receptacle; an indicating assembly coupled to the interior of the housing and structured to indicate a charging status state provided by the signaling mechanism; and an interface between the indicating assembly and the signaling mechanism in order to energize the indicating assembly and provide an indication of charging status.

A printed circuit board assembly is for a ground fault indication system of a power pedestal. The power pedestal includes a housing. The ground fault indication system has a number of ground fault input devices each structured to be coupled to the housing. The printed circuit board assembly includes an enclosure, a number of terminals each coupled to the enclosure, at least one of the number of terminals being structured to be electrically connected with one of the number of ground fault input devices, and a printed circuit board enclosed by the enclosure and electrically connected to the number of terminals. The printed circuit board has an indication apparatus structured to provide an indication of circuit status.

A protection module is for a modular ground fault protective relay. The modular ground fault protective relay includes a power supply module having a connection port. The protection module includes a body having a first side and a second side disposed opposite the first side, a module connector extending outwardly from the first side, the module connector being structured to be removably coupled to the connection port of the power supply module, and a module expansion port extending inwardly from the second side toward the first side.

A power pedestal including a receptacle, a circuit breaker electrically connected between a power source and the receptacle and including separable contacts structured to trip open and electrically disconnect the receptacle from the power source, a current sensor structured to detect current flowing to the receptacle, and a ground fault detection device structured to sense a ground fault based on an output of the current sensor and to control the circuit breaker to trip open the separable contacts in response to detecting the ground fault. The ground fault detection device has an adjustable range of ground fault protection.
