It is determined that a workflow comprising inter-resource requests of a distributed application is to be initiated. In response to detecting, at a first resource during execution of the workflow, that a triggering condition for retrying a request is met, and that a workflow-level retry budget of the workflow indicates that a retry is permitted, the retry is attempted and the budget is modified to indicate that the retry has been attempted. In response to detecting, at another resource, that a triggering condition for retrying another request is met, and that the workflow-level retry budget of the workflow indicates that a retry is not permitted, an indication that the workflow has failed is generated.

System-wide constraints on retries within distributed applications

Techniques for determining the ability of a modified set of processes to process requests received by an initial set of processes include dividing the requests received by the initial processes into subsets. Each subset includes requests having common values for a set of request parameters. Test data is generated that includes at least one request from each subset. The test data is processed by the modified processes to determine responses. If the response for a request that is determined by the modified processes corresponds to the response for that request that was determined by the initial processes, this correspondence indicates that the modified processes may generate a proper response for each request included in the same subset as the tested request. As a result, the ability of the modified processes to replace the initial processes may be tested using only a portion of the requests received by the initial processes.

System for testing impact of code modifications

A consistent caching service for managing data consistency between a cache system and backing store is provided. The consistent caching service compares an origin token and a parity token associated with the cached copy of the data item to determine consistency of the data item. The origin and parity tokens may be generated by an operation that caused population of the data item to the cache. The parity token may be invalidated by a write operation of the data item, thus causing a mismatch between the two tokens.
