A wireless transceiver for a wireless communication network has an offset Gregorian antenna arrangement comprising a primary reflector dish, an electrically conductive reflector member comprising a secondary reflector and a conductive support wall, a planar array of antenna elements arranged as a feed for transmitting radio frequency signals to the secondary reflector and/or for receiving radio frequency signals from the secondary reflector and a conductive support block configured to support the planar array of antenna elements. The conductive support wall is connected directly to the conductive support block, and the conductive support wall is configured to be substantially perpendicular to the planar array of antenna elements.

Wireless transceiver having a high gain antenna arrangement

A dual polarised edge coupled patch antenna element includes a patch radiator () and a ground plane (), the ground plane being disposed in a substantially parallel relationship with the patch radiator (). A first feed track () is connected at a first feed position on a first edge of the patch radiator and a second feed track () is connected at a second feed position on a second edge of the patch radiator, the second edge being at a right angle to the first edge. The first feed position is offset from the centre of the first edge and the second feed position is offset from the centre of the second edge, and the first feed position and the second feed position are each offset in a respective direction away from a corner between the first side and the second side.

Patch antenna

A radio frequency transmission arrangement comprises a ground plate having an aperture comprising a slot with an elongate cross-section and substantially parallel sides, and a first and second transmission line. The thickness of the ground plate is greater than a width of the slot. The aperture is partially filled with a solid dielectric material and partially filled with air. The first transmission line comprises a first elongate conductor on a first side of the ground plate and has an end terminated with a first termination stub. The second transmission line comprises a second elongate conductor on the opposite side of the ground plate and has an end terminated with a second termination stub. The first transmission line is arranged to cross the slot at a point adjacent to the first termination stub, and the second transmission line is arranged to cross the slot at a point adjacent to the second termination stub.

Radio frequency connection arrangement

A radio frequency transmission arrangement comprises a ground plate having an aperture comprising a slot with an elongate cross-section and substantially parallel sides, and a first and second transmission line. The thickness of the ground plate is greater than a width of the slot. The first transmission line comprises a first elongate conductor on a first side of the ground plate and has an end terminated with a first termination stub. The second transmission line comprises a second elongate conductor on the opposite side of the ground plate and has an end terminated with a second termination stub. The first transmission line is arranged to cross the slot at a point adjacent to the first termination stub, and the second transmission line is arranged to cross the slot at a point adjacent to the second termination stub.

An antenna array assembly comprises a dielectric film () carrying an array of conductive patch radiator elements () and a plurality of conductive feed tracks and a ground plate (), a face of the ground plate () having a contoured shape comprising a first part configured to be in contact with the dielectric film (), and a second part comprising sunken sections with respect to the first part arranged to underlie the conductive feed tracks and conductive patch radiator elements (), and the ground plate having locating protrusions () protruding from the first part. The dielectric film is attached to the ground plate by location of holes in the dielectric film with the locating protrusions () such that the dielectric film is held under tension to maintain spacing of the dielectric film () from the sunken sections of the ground plate () without the use of a dielectric spacer layer between the dielectric film () and the ground plate ().

Antenna array assembly and method of construction thereof

An access point () for use in a point to multipoint wireless network comprises a sector antenna () and an antenna array of antenna elements (), the antenna elements not including the sector antenna, and the antenna elements being arranged to receive signals from the same sector as the sector antenna. A first beamformer () is configurable to form a first beam () from signals received at the antenna array and a selector switch () is switchable to at least a first state in which signals received at the sector antenna () are connected to a first receiver (), and a second state in which signals received from the first beamformer () are connected to the first receiver (). A scheduler is configured to set the selector switch () to the first state for at least a first receive timeslot and to the second state for at least a second receive timeslot.

Method and apparatus for an access point in a point to multipoint wireless network

An antenna array assembly comprises at least a first and second antenna element, each comprising at least one radiator element in a substantially parallel relationship to a respective ground plate, and an isolator bar disposed between the respective ground plates of the first and second antenna elements, the isolator bar being elongate having a cross-section comprising a T shape, the cross-section being across a long axis. The isolator bar comprises a support bar in contact with the ground plates forming the stem of the T shape, and a cross piece forming the top of the T shape. The cross piece of the isolator bar has a width in the cross-section of at least a quarter of a wavelength at an operating frequency of the antenna array, whereby to provide radio frequency isolation between the first and second antenna elements.

Antenna array assembly

A radio frequency transmission arrangement comprises a ground plate () having first and second opposite sides and a boss protruding from said second side of the ground plate (), a first transmission line comprising a first elongate conductor () passing from the first side of the ground plate through an aperture () in the ground plate and the boss, and a second transmission line comprising a second elongate conductor () and a ground plane (), the first elongate conductor () passing through the ground plane () to connect to the second elongate conductor. The boss has an end surface () disposed in a substantially parallel relationship with the ground plane () of the second transmission line, and there is a gap between the end surface of the boss and the ground plane.

A wireless broadband communications system that can maintain high data rates while taking into account channel interference resulting from operating in shared frequency bands, signal fading resulting from dynamic channel degradation, and signal distortion resulting from compliance with maximum power output regulations. In one mode of operation, the system performs adaptive modulation by transmitting a first signal over a selected channel using a first modulation mode having a level of distortion associated therewith resulting from operating the system at a predetermined maximum power output level. Next, a SINAD level is measured on the first channel. The level of distortion associated with the first modulation mode is then subtracted from the measured SINAD level to obtain a first noise level. In the event the first noise level is less than a noise level required to achieve an acceptable error rate in a next modulation mode, a second signal is transmitted over the selected channel using the next modulation mode.

Intelligent adaptive modulation in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless communications system

A wireless broadband communications system that can transmit signals over communications links with multiple modes of diversity, thereby allowing signals having very low correlation to propagate over the link along multiple orthogonal paths. The system can be implemented as a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) system or a line-of-sight (LOS) system. The NLOS system employs orthogonal frequency division modulation (OFDM) waveforms to reduce multi-path interference and frequency selective fading, adaptive modulation to assure high data rates in the presence of channel variability, and spectrum management to achieve increased data throughput and link availability. The LOS system employs space-time coding and spatial and polarization diversity to minimize ground bounce nulls. The system achieves levels of link availability, data throughput, and system performance that have heretofore been unattainable in wireless broadband communications systems.

Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless communications system

Techniques for facilitating and reducing the costs associated with the installation of a wireless broadband communications system. In one mode of operation, the system employs a first transceiver to identify n channels having the n lowest levels of noise and interference associated therewith by a spectrum management technique. Next, the first transceiver transmits a predetermined code over the n channels to a second transceiver, which attempts to identify the predetermined code within a captured transmission. In the event the code is correctly identified, the second transceiver measures a noise and/or interference level associated with the corresponding channels. The channel having the lowest measured noise and interference level is then selected for use in system installation.
