An isolation system comprising: a substantially rectangular stationary frame; an imaging assembly including a curved platen for supporting image media and an exposure assembly for imagewise exposing a supported image media to produce exposed image media, wherein the imaging assembly has a substantial rectangular footprint and is sized to fit within the stationary frame; and a cable and spring assembly for suspending the imaging assembly from the frame to substantially isolate the imaging assembly from sources of external vibration.

The present invention provides a spectrally sensitized photothermographic silver halide element comprising a support layer having on at least one surface thereof a photothermographic composition which displays uniform image density across its surface when exposed to floodlight or uniform incandescent light exposure at radiation wavelengths to which the element is sensitive, said element comprising at least two layers, including a top layer and a photothermographic emulsion layer, said photothermographic emulsion layer comprising a binder, a light insensitive silver source, a reducing agent for silver ion and infrared radiation sensitive silver halide grains, wherein the coherent radiation is rendered more diffuse in its passage through the element than when it strikes the top layer. This may be accomplished at least in part by 1) the top layer of the element having haze induced therein of 0.05 to 30% by surface modification of that layer, 2) there being a random refractive pattern on the top layer, 3) haze being induced in the silver halide containing layer, 4) the reflective characteristics of a surface of the support layer facing the photothermographic composition have been altered to reduce reflection of coherent radiation into said composition, and/or 5) having a radiation absorbing material contained within the photothermographic element to decrease light reflected off of the support.

Photothermographic element with reduced woodgrain interference patterns

A translation system comprising: a linear support having first and second opposite ends; a carriage slid ably mounted on said support for movement in reciprocal linear directions between said first and second ends of said support; a rotary drive rotatable in opposite rotary directions located at one end of said support; a rotatable member mounted at the other end of said support; and a multiple cable assembly attached to said carriage and extending around said rotary drive and said rotatable member moving said carriage in said reciprocal linear directions as a function of rotation of said rotary drive in said opposite rotary directions.

Independently-tensioned multiple-cable translation system

An optical scanner assembly for exposing an image on a scanned surface. The optical scanner assembly includes a laser mechanism for producing a laser beam representative of the image to be exposed on the scanned surface. The laser beam defines an optical path between the laser mechanism and the scanned surface. A laser beam shaping system is positioned along the optical path for focusing and shaping the laser beam onto the scanned surface. A scanning and directing system is provided for directing the laser beam to the scanned surface and scanning the laser beam across the scanned surface in an image-wise pattern. A unibody attenuation mechanism is positioned along the optical path for power attenuation of the laser beam, wherein the unibody variable density power attenuation mechanism is a linear density wedge.

A film removal mechanism to aid in removing film from a thermal drum processor. The film removal mechanism includes a body having a thin, film removal edge, wherein the body extends longitudinally along the drum surface in a direction generally perpendicular to the direction of drum rotation. At least a portion of the film removal edge contacts the drum surface. A mechanism is provided for coupling the body to the thermal drum processor.

A linear translation system for use in a laser imaging system. The linear translation system includes a base member including a pair of longitudinally extending guide rails positioned parallel to each other. A carriage mechanism is carried by the base member, wherein the carriage mechanism is slidably coupled to the guide rails using a three position kinematic design. A rotary to linear motion mechanism is coupled to the carriage mechanism which slidably moves the carriage mechanism along the guide rails. A laser imaging assembly is coupled to the carriage mechanism.

Linear translation system for use in a laser imaging system

An optical scanner feedback system. The feedback system provides a feedback signal representative of a laser beam focused along an optical path onto a scanning surface. The feedback system includes a cylinder lens having a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis, located along the optical path having an optical surface for shaping and focusing the laser beam in a first direction. A photodetector is provided having an active region sensitive to light. The laser beam includes a scanning portion which passes through the lens and a reflected portion which reflects off the lens. The reflected portion is reflected such that it is incident on the photodetector active region for providing an output signal representative of the laser beam.

Optical scanner feedback system having a reflected cylinder lens

A flexible lens assembly. The flexible lens assembly includes a long, flexible structural layer and a first optical layer coupled to the long, flexible structural layer. The optical layer is shaped to achieve a desired optical characteristic, wherein the flexible lens assembly exhibits diffraction limited optical characteristics, and wherein the flexible lens assembly is capable of being flexed in at least a 180.degree. arc while maintaining its diffraction limited optical characteristics. In one preferred embodiment, the flexible lens assembly is a flexible cylinder lens.

Flexible lens

A method of making a long, thin, flexible lens. The method comprises the steps of providing a mold having a top surface shape corresponding to a desired lens shape. A curable optical material is dispenses onto the top surface. A thin, flexible structural layer is placed onto the top surface, over the curable optical material to form a mold assembly. The mold assembly is cured. The flexible lens is removed from the mold top surface. The flexible lens is capable of flexing in at least a 180.degree. arc while maintaining its diffraction limited optical characteristics.

Method of making a flexible lens

An optical assembly for use in focusing a laser beam along an optical path onto a scanned surface. The optical assembly includes a first cylinder lens having a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis, located along the optical path for shaping and focusing the laser beam in a first direction, wherein the transverse axis is substantially perpendicular to the optical path. A second cylinder lens is provided having a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis, located along the optical path for shaping and focusing the laser beam in a second direction, wherein the transverse axis is substantially perpendicular to the optical path. Optical configuration for an optical scanner system

An optical scanner assembly for exposing an image on a piece of photosensitive film positioned within an internal drum type exposure assembly. The optical scanner assembly is part of a laser imaging system suitable for use in a medical imaging system. The optical scanner assembly includes a laser mechanism for producing a laser beam representative of the image to be exposed on the photosensitive film. A first lens system is provided for shaping and focusing the laser beam in a first direction, including a long, flexible cylinder lens. A second lens system is provided for shaping and focusing the laser beam in a second direction, including a second cylinder lens oriented generally perpendicular to the long, flexible cylinder lens. A scanning and directing system is provided for directing the laser beam and scanning the laser beam across the photosensitive film in an image-wise pattern, including a rotating scanner mechanism, wherein the long, flexible cylinder lens is located between the rotating scanner mechanism and the photosensitive film.

Optical scanner system

An optical scanner assembly for exposing an image on a photosensitive film. The photosensitive film is positioned on the internal surface of a drum. The optical scanner assembly includes a laser assembly for producing a laser beam representative of the image to be exposed on the photosensitive film, a scanner, and a long, flexible lens curved to the shape of the photosensitive film positioned on the internal surface of the drum, wherein the lens is positioned between the scanner and the film. The scanner operates to scan the laser beam through the lens across the surface of the photosensitive film in an image-wise pattern.

Optical scanner assembly for use in a laser imaging system

A light collection device for use in a film image digitizing apparatus comprises a housing having an elongated aperture extending along a light beam scan line. The aperture receives light transmitted through a sheet of film from a light source. A diffusing member, disposed within the aperture and extending along the scan line, optically diffuses the light received by the aperture. The housing may include one or more reflective interior surfaces. A linear array of photodiodes, disposed within the housing and extending along the scan line, detects the light diffused by the diffusing member. Each of the photodiodes generates an analog signal representing an intensity of the detected light for each of a plurality of pixels. A summing circuit, coupled to each of the photodiodes, sums the analog signals generated by the photodiodes for each of the pixels to produce an output analog signal representing an overall intensity of the light transmitted through the sheet of film for each of the pixels.

Light collection device for a film image digitizer

A multi-user digital laser imaging system for imaging film from bar coded cartridges as a function of image values representative of the images to be printed. The imaging system includes memory for storing transfer functions and film models for each of several users. The transfer functions characterize the relationships between image values and expected imaged film transmittance quantities. The film models characterize the relationship between the transmittance quantities and laser drive values that will provide the appropriate film exposure. An image management subsystem generates lookup tables characterizing the relationship between image values and laser drive values on the basis of user-selected transfer functions and film models selected by the system through the use of film identification information read from the bar code. During imaging operations the image management subsystem accesses the lookup tables as a function of the image values to obtain the appropriate laser drive values. The transfer functions can be modified to accommodate user preferences. Test wedge calibration procedures are periodically implemented to correlate the film models to measured sensitometric characteristics. Density patch calibration procedures are performed during each imaging operation to correct for drifts caused by the film developing subsystem.
