Certain systems, methods, and devices described herein are configured to dynamically model a patient area for surgery and/or other treatment, dynamically identify one or more features and/or characteristics thereon such as the length and/or elasticity of the posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL), dynamically allow modification of the model, dynamically limit and/or assist in modification of the model, and/or dynamically generate guidelines for generation of patient-specific implants and/or treatment kits for a specific patient.

Systems, methods, and devices for developing patient-specific medical treatments, operations, and procedures

Expandable spinal implants and drivers connected by a bendable joint are disclosed. The flexible connector allows the implant and driver to move to different angular orientations with respect to each other, and to apply rotational force or torque from the driver to the implant and its expansion mechanism. During insertion of an implant into the desired position, the driver may be oriented in the same or different direction than the long axis of the implant. After the spinal implant is placed in the desired position, the driver is used to expand the implant in selected dimensions.

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for performing spinal reconstructive surgery, including measuring spinal length in the Y-axis at the middle column, measuring intervertebral spacing in the Y-axis at the middle column, measuring intervertebral tension applied to the posterior longitudinal ligament, establishing the height of intervertebral spacers along the Y-axis at the middle column based on one or more of such measurements, measuring intervertebral rotation around the Y-axis, and measuring flexion-extension or anterior-posterior rotation around the X-axis.

A spinal system having a plate with at least one nesting point and at least one screw hole for receiving a screw. The system also includes a keel having a first and second keel wing attached to the plate and a structure having at least one screw hole, the structure configured to be placed between two vertebrae in a spine. The first and second keel wing are configured with at least one screw hole each which correspond to the at least one screw hole of the plate and the at least one screw hole of the structure. The first and second keel wing are configured with a first and second bottom portion, and the first and second bottom portions having a first and second cup for receiving a portion of the screw and the first and second bottom portions being adapted to lock the screws from backing out.

Plate systems and methods of use

There is disclosed a system and method for dynamic stabilization which provides for distraction of the inter-vertebral space while still allowing a patient a substantial range of motion. In one embodiment, an inter-vertebral dynamic brace is used to maintain proper distraction. The dynamic brace is designed to allow the vertebrae to which it is attached to move through their natural arc, maintaining the correct instantaneous center of rotation. An adjustable tensioning device is used to maintain the proper distraction and compression forces to restore and maintain proper kinematics, while allowing the dynamic brace to move through an arc centered with respect to the center of rotation of the portion of the spine between the vertebrae. In one embodiment, a method is provided for adjusting the dynamic brace both with respect to the center of rotation of the vertebrae in both the flexion/extension axis and in the superior/inferior axis.

There is disclosed systems and methods for spinal nucleus replacement by constructing channels through vertebral segments on either side of an area into which the spinal nucleus is to be positioned, the channels running from a channel end outside of the area to a channel end abutting the area. One end of a suture is inserted into the outside channel end of a first one of the channels and passed through the first channel and into the area and out of the area through the second channel until it emerges from the second channel. The suture is then used to pull the nucleus into the area.

Nucleus replacement securing device and method

A method of and apparatus for performing endoscopic or laparoscopic surgery on a patient's spine is provided. The apparatus includes a trochar which is specifically design for spinal applications. The trochar includes of a first transparent tubular member of a predetermined diameter and a second transparent tubular member of a slightly larger diameter than the first transparent tubular member. The first transparent tubular member fits slidingly within the second transparent tubular member in a telescoping manner. The first transparent tubular member has two ends: an end for remaining in side-to-side contact with said second tubular member and a free end which has an attached metal fitting with serrated teeth for anchoring in the patient's vertebrae when the trochar is inserted through a incision made in the patient's abdomen or chest. The trochar also includes a collar and set screw arrangement. The collar is made up of a short tubular portion having a flanged end. The flanged end is annularly shaped and protrudes approximately perpendicularly outwardly from the short tubular portion of the collar. The short tubular portion of the collar has a threaded aperture therethrough. The threaded aperture threadingly mates with a set screw which when turned far enough counterclockwise prevents the first tube from telescoping within the second tube. Additionally, the collar and set screw arrangement also functions to stabilize the trochar in an approximately upright position at an angle to the patient's body.
