A pacemaker has a metallic housing with a connector arrangement adapted to receive a contact plug, with contact surfaces, at the proximal end of an electrode lead. The connector arrangement includes a metallic tubular member with opposite ends which are welded or bonded to respective openings in the metallic housing. The metallic tubular member is substantially continuous along its length between the opposite ends. All components which are needed for making electrical contact with the contact surfaces of the lead are contained within the interior of the metallic tubular member.

The present invention relates to a pacer housing ( ) comprising a connecter means adapted to receive a connect plug ( ) on the proximal end of a lead ( ) with an electrode located on the dismal end of said lead, said housing being made of metal, and connecter means comprising a tubular member having two ends and being located inside said housing, a first end ( ) of said tubular member being welded or bonded to an opening in a wall of said housing, the second end ( ) of said tubular member being closed. Said tubular member comprises a tube ( ) made of a metal being weldable or bondable to said metal housing, said tube being structurally intact along its entire length, all interior means ( ) in said tube for contacting the contact surfaces ( ) on said plug being located within the enclosure formed by said tube, said tube further containing at least one insulating ceramic plug ( ) being coaxial with said tube and holding said interior means for contacting said contact surfaces on said plug.

Housing, with a tubular connector, for a heart stimulator

An implantable heart stimulator has a connector for an electrode lead in the form of a self-contained tubular connector, which can be placed as a unit in one-half shell of a stimulator housing, together with a hybrid circuit and a power source. The other half shell of the stimulator housing can then simply be placed over these assembled components and joined thereto by welding, thereby considerably simplifying manufacture and assembly of the stimulator. When an even number of such self-contained connector tubes is employed, the two stimulator housing half shells can be identical.
