A drive mechanism includes an electric motor, a rotor driven by the electric motor, and a worm screw driven by the rotor. The drive mechanism further includes a wheel driven by the worm screw, the wheel transmitting movement of the electric motor to a vehicle closure, and a clutch on the rotor connecting the worm screw to the electric motor or disconnecting the worm screw from the electric motor.

Drive mechanism for a vehicle closure

The apparatus for closing a closure of a vehicle comprises a closure driver for moving the closure and an electronic control unit electrically coupled to the closure driver. The electronic control unit is configured to determine if predetermined speed criteria is satisfied and to operate the closure driver so as to close the closure at a first closing speed if the predetermined speed criteria is satisfied or at a second closing speed if the predetermined speed criteria is not satisfied. The second closing speed is less than the first closing speed regardless of the position of the closure so that a squeezing force applied by the closure to an obstruction remains less than a predetermined squeezing force. An associated method is disclosed.

Method and apparatus for closing a powered closure of a vehicle

An anti-pinch system of a vehicle closure includes a detection system for detecting pinching and a clutch to disconnect the vehicle closure from a closure driving mechanism following detection of pinching by the detection system. The closure drive mechanism can be disengaged to prevent an increase in pinching during the time required to reverse the movement of the closure driving mechanism.

Anti-pinch system

A method for activating an anti-pinch system for a vehicle window regulator, sunroof or driving mechanism includes the steps of starting a motor of the driving mechanism, waiting for a given rotation of the motor and a given time period, and then activating the anti-pinch system. This allows for close monitoring of the behavior of the window regulator when the window regulator is started, and takes account of both the behavior of the drive motor and the behavior of the driving mechanism.

Window anti-pinch system activating method

A method for determining a change in direction of rotation of a motor includes the steps of establishing steady state operating parameters of the motor, triggering a command interrupting the rotation of the motor, estimating the speed of the motor after triggering the command and determining the instant from which the speed of the motor is below zero. This instant corresponds to the change in direction of rotation of the motor. The instant from which the motor changes direction of rotation can be determined accurately.
