A device for controlling valve travel of the flush valve of a toilet operated by a rigid linkage rod and for forcibly returning the valve to the closed position. The device may comprise a spring contained within a sleeve. The sleeve has end caps bearing openings for passing the rigid linkage rod entirely through the sleeve and spring. One end cap may be threaded to enable it to compress and immobilize the spring for selectively defeating operation.

A cold forging apparatus for forming complex shapes at a single station includes a first multiple function punch assembly having an inner and outer punch. A third punch or a second multiple function punch assembly is provided in a confronting relationship with the first multiple function punch assembly. A conveyor conveys a metal work piece from a supply source to a loading/unloading area between the first multiple function punch assembly and the third punch or second multiple function punch assembly. The conveyor includes a pivot assembly, a moveable J-shaped robot arm having an end effector fixed to one end thereof to rotate about the pivot assembly. A servo actuator and crank arm connected to one end thereof rotate the robot arm and end effector to convey a metal work piece from a supply source to a loading/unloading position and for conveying a forged product from the loading/unloading position to a storage area.

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for forming a plurality of parts, such as spade-type boring bits, from a continuous stock material. Thus, the various steps of the forming method of the present invention can be performed to predetermined portions of the continuous stock material prior to separating the continuous stock material into discrete parts, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the forming process. The present invention also provides an improved forge for forming portions of the continuous stock material into parts having a predetermined shape. The forge can be designed to provide a clearance region proximate the forward end of the ram to permit slight flexing of the forward end of the ram in a radially outward direction during forging operations. The forge can also include a lubrication system for lubricating its various components. In addition, the forge can incrementally rotate the ram after one or more parts have been forged. By repeating the incremental rotation of the ram, the forge will eventually rotate the ram a full 360&#xb0;. An improved forging die is also provided which includes a back surface having a conical medial section and a pair of conical lateral sections that are recessed relative to the medial section such that forces will principally be applied to the medial section during forging operations.

Method and apparatus for forming parts from a continuous stock material and associated forge

Illustratively, the device may depend from the steering column of a passenger automobile. In an alternative embodiment, the feedback device is readily removable from the vehicle. In a further alternative embodiment, contact characteristics may be adjusted to be, at one end of a range of adjustment a soft contact, at the other end of a range of adjustment a solid, unyielding contact, or any intermediate between the two ends of the range of adjustment.

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for forming a plurality of parts, such as spade-type boring bits, from a continuous stock material. Spade-type boring bit having chamfered corner portions

The spade-type boring bit includes an elongate shank defining a central longitudinal axis and a blade portion joined to one end of the shank and including a pair of generally flat side segments extending laterally from the central longitudinal axis. Each side segment includes a respective forward cutting edge which are aligned with each other along a centerline which passes through the central longitudinal axis of the elongate shaft so as to increase the efficiency with which the spade bit drills. The spade bit also includes a spur joined to and extending axially from the forward end of the blade portion. The spur can include spur cutting edges separated radially, angularly and, in some instances, longitudinally or axially from the forward cutting edge of the adjacent side segment to prevent accumulation of chip swarf between the spur cutting edge and the adjacent forward cutting edge. The present invention also provides a method and apparatus of forging a plurality of parts from a continuous metal stock which provides for rapid fabrication of parts having fine features, such as a spade bit. In particular, the continuous metal stock is incrementally advanced and the leading portion of the metal stock is clamped following each incremental advance. Thereafter, a portion of the metal stock is forged, such as with radially closed dies which impart axial and radial forces to the metal stock which, in turn, generate compressive, tensile and shear stresses within the workpiece. The longitudinal growth of the continuous metal stock created during the forging is compensated by permitting upstream longitudinal constraint or movement of the continuous metal stock as appropriate for forming the part.

Spade-type boring bit and an associated method and apparatus for forming

The spade-type boring bit includes an elongate shank defining a central longitudinal axis and a blade portion joined to one end of the shank. The blade portion includes a pair of generally flat side segments extending laterally from the central longitudinal axis and having a respective forward cutting edge and a respective chamfered corner portion. Each chamfered corner portion includes a chamfered edge which extends both axially rearward and laterally outward from the respective forward cutting edge so as repeatedly cut the peripheral wall of the resulting hole as the spade bit is rotatably advanced through a workpiece. The spade bit therefore produces a high-quality hole having a smooth peripheral wall and relatively clean entry and exit points. In addition, the forward cutting edges of the spade bit can be aligned with each other along a centerline which passes through the central longitudinal axis of the elongate shaft so as to increase the efficiency with which the spade bit drills. The spade bit also includes a spur joined to and extending axially from the forward end of the blade portion. The spur can include spur cutting edges separated radially, angularly and, in some instances, longitudinally or axially from the forward cutting edge of the adjacent side segment to prevent accumulation of chip swarf between the spur cutting edge and the adjacent forward cutting edge.

Spade-type boring bit

A self-centering twist drill bit 20 is formed with a 'fishtail' cutting section 32 having major cutting lips 72 and 74 on a working end 26 thereof at a point angle of 190.degree.. Tip relief surfaces 76 and 78 trail cutting lips 72 and 74. A pilot tip 38 on the working end 26 extends axially from the 'fishtail' cutting section 32 and is formed with a split point having leading cutting edges 40 and 42 and minor cutting lips 46 and 48. Outer surfaces 58 and 60 of pilot tip 38 are each formed with a radial relief and a back taper and joins with cutting section 32 along fillets 92 and 100 which are also radially relieved.
