A fluid pump includes a motor disposed within an outer housing. The motor includes a stator and a rotor in electromagnetic communication with the stator. Windings are disposed on the stator that receive an electric current for defining the electromagnetic communication. A pump element is attached to the rotor via a drive shaft. The pump element operates with the rotor to deliver a fluid through a hydraulic fluid path. A plurality of sensors measure information related to at least one of the stator, the windings, the rotor, the pump element, the fluid and the hydraulic fluid path. A controller is in communication with the windings for delivering the electric current to the windings. The controller is also in communication with the plurality of sensors for measuring and recording the information and communicating this information to one of an external memory and an external controller.

Control system for a smart pump located within a lubrication/cooling assembly

A variable pressure solenoid (VPS) control valve. The VPS control valve includes an hydraulic section and a magnetic section. The hydraulic section includes a movable valve that receives a pressurized fluid and generates a control pressure, and the magnetic section controls the operation of the movable valve. The movable valve includes an inlet ball valve for limiting the flow of pressurized fluid into the hydraulic section and an exhaust valve for limiting the exhaust of pressurized fluid out of the hydraulic section. The magnetic section includes a spring-biased armature, and an electromagnetic coil for generating a variable electromagnetic field in response to an electrical input signal for moving the spring biased armature.

Variable pressure solenoid control valve

Method and apparatus are described for a variable force solenoid for controlling the flow of a fluid in a housing having a bore for receiving the fluid flow, at least one port for exhausting the fluid flow, and a seat extending between the port and the bore. The solenoid includes a valve member disposed in the housing. In a closed position, the valve member is engaged with the seat, preventing fluid flow from the bore to the port. In an open position, the valve member is not engaged with the seat, allowing fluid flow from the bore to the port. A subassembly is disposed in the housing and surrounds a portion of the valve member for moving the valve member to its closed position. The subassembly has a movable armature for engaging the valve member, an annular member for attracting the armature, and a gap defined between the armature and the annular member. The gap is maintained by engagement of the armature by the valve member. A coil is disposed in the housing radially outward from the subassembly. Reception of electric current by the coil produces magnetic flux, thereby attracting the armature to the annular member, and thus moving the valve member to the closed position.
