Jammed oil-in-water emulsion toothpaste compositions. Jammed oil-in-water emulsion toothpaste compositions with unexpectedly high yield stress values and/or high opacity without the use of a solid opacifier. Jammed oil-in-water emulsion toothpaste compositions with a hydrophobic phase with a particular droplet size of from about 0.4 microns to about 1000 microns, which can lead to toothpaste compositions with unexpectedly high yield stress values and/or high opacity without the use of a solid opacifier.

A method for whitening teeth is provided where the method includes contacting at least one tooth surface with a semisolid oral dispersion. The semisolid oral dispersion may include solid hydrophilic active agent particles, where at least about 20 parts, by weight, of the solid hydrophilic active agent particles are soluble in about 100 parts, by weight, of water or the solid hydrophilic active agent particles swell by at least about 50% upon contact with water, and at least about 60%, by weight of the semisolid oral dispersion, of a semisolid hydrophobic phase.

The hydrophilic active agent particles can include bleaching agents, antimicrobial agents, anticalculus agents, and/or combinations thereof. The hydrophilic active agent particle can have a solubility in water of at least about 20 parts, by weight of the particles, in about 100 parts, by weight, of water. The hydrophobic phase can be semisolid petrolatum.

A kit includes a multi-phase oral composition for whitening teeth and a delivery carrier. The multi-phase oral composition for whitening teeth includes from about 0.002% to about 30%, by weight of the multi-phase oral composition, of a discontinuous aqueous phase having up to 10%, by weight of the multi-phase oral composition, of a bleaching agent and a continuous hydrophobic phase having at least about 50%, by weight of the multi-phase oral composition, of petrolatum.

The concentration of the bleaching agent at a first surface of the solid delivery carrier is greater than the concentration of the bleaching agent at a second surface of the solid delivery carrier. The concentration of the bleaching agent at the first surface is from about 10 micrograms/cmto about 5000 micrograms/cm.

An oral care article for use in the oral cavity includes a water insoluble delivery carrier comprising solid hydrophilic particles comprising at least one bleaching agent. At least about 20 parts by weight of the solid hydrophilic particles dissolve in about 100 parts by weight of water, and/or the solid hydrophilic particles increase by volume and/or weight by at least about 50% in water. The particles are embedded in the carrier partially below the first surface and partially at or above the first surface of the solid hydrophobic delivery carrier. A concentration of the bleaching agent is from about 0.01% to about 15%, by weight of the article.

Multi-phase oral composition for tooth whitening

An oral care article in form of a strip for use in the oral cavity. The oral care article includes a hydrophobic delivery carrier comprising embedded solid hydrophilic particles comprising at least one bleaching agent, wherein at least about 20 parts by weight of the particles dissolve in about 100 parts by weight of water and/or the particles increase in volume and/or weight by at least about 50% upon contact with water.

The oral care article comprises a solid hydrophobic delivery carrier comprising solid hydrophilic particles comprising an active agent for oral care. The active agent(s) for oral care can include an anti-calculus agent, an anti-caries agent, an antimicrobial agent, a dentinal desensitizing agent, a bleaching agent, or combinations thereof. The concentration of the active agent for oral care at a first surface of the solid hydrophobic delivery carrier is greater than the concentration of the active agent at a second surface of the solid hydrophobic delivery carrier.

Semisolid oral dispersions for whitening teeth comprising a hydrophilic discontinuous phase and a hydrophobic continuous phase. The semisolid oral dispersions include a hydrophilic discontinuous phase comprising bleaching agent particles. The semisolid oral dispersions also include a hydrophobic continuous phase comprising petrolatum. The h bleaching agent particles can include peroxide compounds and/or hydrogen peroxide adducts. The bleaching agent particle can have a solubility in water of at least about 20 parts, by weight of the particles, in about 100 parts, by weight, of water.
