Disc-stem connection for a butterfly valve using interfitted slots on the disc and stem for mechanical connection. An oversize slot on the disc creates channels between the disc and the stem which allows deep penetration of a weld bead. Centralization of the stems within the oversize slots is effected by means of small spacers interposed between the stems and the slot edges. The spacers are small enough so that the necessary space created for the weld is not displaced.

Apparatus for a disc-stem connection

An apparatus for inserting a resilient valve seat into a valve body, the valve body being of a type having a radially inwardly projecting annular rib which defines a bore through the valve body, the valve seat being generally annular and having an annular web portion, a first annular flange portion projecting radially outwardly from a first end of the web portion and a second annular flange portion projecting radially outwardly from a second end of the web portion to define an annular, radially outwardly opening channel for receiving the rib, the apparatus including a frame which has an opening and having a plate for positioning a valve body adjacent the opening such that the bore in the valve body and the opening in the frame are in register, a plunger assembly slidably mounted in the frame, the plunger assembly having a mounting head and a plurality of circumferentially spaced grabbing elements secured to the mounting head, the grabbing elements including projections to engage one of the annular flange portions of the valve seat such that at the mounting head is moved in a given direction in the frame, the grab elements engage the rib in the valve body resulting in a distortion or folding of the valve seat such that the engaged annular flange portion can pass through the bore defined by the rib.

Apparatus for inserting valve seats in valve bodies

An improved rotary valve assembly having a valve body, a valve element rotatably disposed in the body and having a first bore which is coaxial with the axis of rotation of the valve element and a shaft member rotatably mounted in the valve body and extending into the first bore into the valve element, the valve element further having a second bore which is transverse to and intersects the first bore, a threaded torque transmission member being threadedly received in the second bore and having an end face which abuts the shaft member whereby the torque transmission member can be compressively urged against the shaft member, the first bore in the valve element having an abutment surface which is generally opposite the second bore, the shaft member having an outer surface defining an engagement portion which is engageable with the abutment surface, either the abutment surface or the engagement portion of the outer surface of the shaft being provided with friction-inducing formations such that when the torque transmission member is compressively urged against the shaft member, the friction-inducing formations on either the abutment surface or the engagement portion of the outer surface of the shaft are urged into biting or frictional engagement with the other of the abutment surface or the engagement portion of the outer surface of the shaft.

A butterfly valve having a composite, reinforced seat, the valve having a one piece body defining a radially inwardly extending annular rib, the valve seat being a U-shaped annular member of a generally resilient material and having a radially outwardly opening channel which engages the rib of the valve body to provide an interlocking engagement between the valve seat and the valve body, the seat including a series of generally U-shaped structural members made of a material more rigid than the resilient material of the seat, the U-shaped member being bonded to the seat, the U-shaped members being spaced sufficiently to permit distortion of the seat so that it can be inserted in the valve body.

Butterfly valve construction having a composite seat

A rotatable shaft assembly comprising a body with a bore having a first end and a second end and an annular abutment formed intermediate the first and second ends of the bore and extending radially inwardly into the bore, a shaft or stem rotatably received in the bore, said shaft having a reduced diameter portion forming an annular shoulder which faces the second end of the bore, a retaining collar disposed in the bore adjacent the abutment, the retaining collar including an annular band and a plurality of resiliently, radially deflectable fingers depending radially inwardly from said band, each of the fingers forming a strut portion terminating in a free end which engages the shoulder on the shaft upon movement of shaft toward the second end of the bore and a stop member disposed in the bore for stopping movement of the retaining collar toward the second end of the bore.
