A laminate sheet article including: a core including an electrical semi-conductor or an electrical conductor; and a continuous glass clad layer on at least four of six sides the core of the sheet article. Also disclosed is an apparatus for making a sheet laminate article as defined herein. Also disclosed is a method of making and using the article.

Disclosed herein are methods for forming low melting point glass fibers comprising providing a glass feedstock comprising a low melting point glass and melt-spinning the glass feedstock to produce glass fibers, wherein the glass transition temperature of the glass fibers is less than or equal to about 120% of the glass transition temperature of the glass feedstock. The disclosure also relates to method for forming low melting point glass frit further comprising jet-milling the glass fibers. Low melting point glass frit and fibers produced by the methods described above are also disclosed herein.

Materials, both glass and glass-ceramic, that exhibit UV-induced changes in light transmission and electrical conductivity behavior. The materials consist essentially, in mole %, of 20-40% SiO , 10-20% AlO , 35-55% SiO &plus;AlO , at least 30% CdF , 0-20% PbF , and/or ZnF , 0-15% rare earth metal fluoride, and 45-65% total metal fluorides.

The inventive compositions include Pr and/or Dy in a concentration range of between 300-2,000 ppmw and Ag in a concentration range of between 500-2000 ppmw; or Er in a concentration range of between 500-5,000 ppmw and Ag in a concentration range of between 0-2,000 ppmw. The monovalent silver ion provides an ionic charge balanced glass-ceramic crystal. These compositions exhibit reduced or absent rare earth ion clustering and fluorescence quenching effects in the presence of high concentrations of rare earth ion dopants.
