An embodiment of the invention provides a transmissive passive repeater having two or more antenna arrays, each array comprised of a plurality of antenna elements. Each antenna array has an associated region. An aperture is defined by the antenna arrays with which energy at respective antenna arrays passes between each of the regions. Another embodiment of the invention provides a reflective passive repeater having an aperture. Energy received at the aperture is reflected back from the aperture. The aperture is configured to provide a conformal mapping between two regions as determined by complex coupling by individual antenna elements.

Compact passive repeater

A headwear assembly is provided that measures physiological changes, e.g., oxygen saturation, pulse, blood pressure, and body temperature of a user during physical exercise, to include athletic activities and other situations. The headwear assembly can provide integrated functionality with an external device such as a smart phone. The headwear assembly can be embodied in various configurations, e.g., stand-alone headband, cap, visor, or a helmet.

Electronic headwear

Disclosed are improved antenna structures, systems, and methods of manufacturing. In an embodiment, low-cost internal 2G/5G antennas have flat metal dipole construction, which can include a stiffener. External embodiments include quad dipole antenna structures, with broadside or corner arrays. Isolated multi-band center or end-fed dipole antennas can include single-sided PCB or metal-only structures, for operation with at least two distinct frequencies, and can provide RF isolation, such as with an RF trap or a Balun system. Embodiments of non-DC path or pass-through dual band antennas feature trap structures, along with discrete or distributed matching, and can provide a DC feed path for LEDs. Low profile and flat vertically polarized omni-directional antennas, such as for operation at 915 MHz, include an open slot driven cavity. Stacked 2G/5G antenna structures provide axial symmetry between quadrants. Improved construction methods and antenna structures include enhanced thin metal components and low cost, crimp-only construction methods.

Antenna structures and associated methods for construction and use

A dual band end fed dipole provides at least two distinct operating frequencies, e.g. 2.45 GHz and 5.5 GHz. Properties of the antenna include low cost to manufacture, e.g. ease of automation; minimal manual labor to manufacture, e.g. reliability; dual band operation; broad bandwidth; good feed line isolation; omnidirectional beam pattern; minimal vertical beam squint; small diameter; and high efficiency. Embodiments of the invention provide a dual band end fed dipole with a low band trap on the feed side that requires minimal manual labor to manufacture because the antenna is formed from a single flat sheet of metal and soldering is replaced with crimping. Minimal dielectric loading is also achieved.

Isolated multiband tubular dipole

A method of operating an antenna system for a wireless device is provided for controlling radiation characteristics of the antenna system. The antenna system includes first and second sets of feed points disposed so that first and second radiation pattern are generated by the antenna system when drive currents are provided at the first and second set of feed points, respectively. The second radiation pattern is different from the first radiation pattern. The first and second drive currents are supplied such that a predetermined overall radiation pattern is generated. The predetermined overall radiation pattern is at least in part a combination of the first radiation pattern and the second radiation pattern. The system and method may be directed toward Specific Absorption of Radiation (SAR) mitigation.

Method for operation of an antenna system enabling control of radiation characteristics

Various embodiments disclose systems and methods for employing a Sub1G signal (e.g. a signal in the range of approximately 500 Mhz or 800 mHz) for use with internal and/or external components of various user devices. The Sub1G region may provide a path loss advantage over traditional 2.4 and 5 Ghz systems because of the lower frequency in free-space path loss model. Sub 1G may also present less interference compared to 2.4 GHz (e.g., better QoS for applications such as VOIP, Gaming, etc.). In some of the disclosed embodiments, Sub1G may be employed using current 2.4G or 5G Wireless LAN chipset with RF Up/Down Converters. In some embodiments, the Sub1G approach may be used to create a Long Range Bridge, Long Range Extender, Long Range Client, Long Range Hotspot, etc.

Systems and methods for improving WLAN range

A compact multi-antenna, multi-antenna system, and wireless device comprising same are provided. The multi-antenna comprises first, second and third antennas. The second antenna contains the first antenna, and the third antenna contains at least part of the second antenna. The first antenna may be a slot-in-slot or other antenna, the second antenna may be a dipole, and the third antenna may be a dipole or monopole. The multi-antenna system comprises the multi-antenna plus first, second and third transmission systems operatively coupled thereto. The antennas of the multi-antenna and system may be concurrently operated, substantially independently, and may have mutually orthogonal polarizations. Particular antenna and system configurations are also disclosed.

Compact multi-antenna and multi-antenna system

A multi-antenna system and wireless device comprising same are provided. The multi-antenna system comprises two open-slot antennas each coupled to its own resonant cavity. The two resonant cavities may be adjacent with common short circuit elements across their boundary. The short circuit elements may include apertures through which wires can be passed. The multi-antenna system may comprise two spaced-apart plates, each plate defining half of the first open-slot antenna, half of the second open-slot antenna, half of the first resonant cavity, and half of the second resonant cavity. The multi-antenna system can be fitted into a low-profile wireless device having a top face with a surface area about equal to or greater than that of the plates. A display such as a touch-screen may be fitted to the top face. The plate configuration may provide for a relatively large surface over which current can flow during antenna operation.

Wireless device and multi-antenna system having dual open-slot radiators

An antenna system for a wireless device and a method for operating same are provided for controlling radiation characteristics of the antenna system. The antenna system includes first and second sets of feed points disposed so that first and second radiation pattern are generated by the antenna system when drive currents are provided at the first and second set of feed points, respectively. The second radiation pattern is different from the first radiation pattern. The first and second drive currents are supplied such that a predetermined overall radiation pattern is generated. The predetermined overall radiation pattern is at least in part a combination of the first radiation pattern and the second radiation pattern. The system and method may be directed toward SAR mitigation.

Apparatus and method for operation of an antenna system enabling control of radiation characteristics

The present technology provides an improved antenna having a conductive first plate, a conductive second plate and a conductive third plate. The conductive first plate and the conductive second plate are disposed and have an electrical connection to form an external antenna structure having a U-shaped cross section. The conductive third plate is disposed parallel to the conductive first plate between the conductive first plate and the conductive second plate and has a proximate edge proximate the electrical connection. The conductive third plate has an electrical length with respect to the proximate edge corresponding to an odd integer multiple of a quarter of a guide wavelength associated with a resonant frequency of the antenna. The conductive third plate forms part of an internal antenna structure.

Antenna having internal and external structures

The present invention provides an apparatus for coupling a radio communication device to a host system. The apparatus comprises a housing including a counterpoise operatively coupled to the radio communication device. The apparatus also comprises a signal pathway operatively coupling the radio communication device to the host system. The apparatus thereby provides a counterpoise for the radio communication device which is external to both the host system and the radio communication device.

An enhanced backscatter RF-ID tag reader system and multiprotocol RF tag reader system is provided. In a multiprotocol mode, the system emits a non-stationary interrogation signal, and decodes a phase modulated backscatter signal by detecting a stronger phase component from quadrature phase representations or determining phase transition edges in a phase of a received signal. The RF tag reader system predicts or follows the phase of the backscatter signal, thereby avoiding interference from nulls in the received signal waveform due to the non-stationary interrogation signal, relative movement or environmental effects. An acoustic RF-ID tag detection system detects the reradiated signal corresponding to respective transformation of a signal in the tag. Detection of either type of RF-ID tags therefore is possible, and the absence of any tag or absence of any valid tag also determined.

Dual mode transmitter-receiver and decoder for RF transponder tags

The present invention provides a radio communication apparatus for use with a host system. The host system includes an electromagnetic body which acts as a ground plane or counterpoise for the radio communication apparatus. The apparatus comprises an electronics system coupled to the host system, a radio module including a radio electromagnetic body and optionally a radio electronics system, a signal pathway operatively coupling the electronics system with the radio module, and a conductive enclosure. The conductive enclosure provides electromagnetic isolation of the signal pathway. The conductive enclosure is further configured, by inclusion of a wave trap, to impede electromagnetic coupling between the radio electromagnetic body and the host electromagnetic body via the conductive enclosure.
