A flashlight particularly useful by safety personnel such as a firefighter and capable of operation with chargeable battery means or non-chargeable battery means. The flashlight includes a one piece plastic casing having a tubular body portion defining a battery compartment and a right angled head portion in which a light bulb is mounted. The battery compartment is closed by an end cap on which electrical conductive means is mounted to form a part of the battery circuit when non-rechargeable batteries are placed in the compartment. A plurality of charging contacts are mounted on the rear wall of the body portion of the flashlight for enabling rechargeable batteries to be recharged while in the compartment. The charging contacts are recessed within the rear wall of the battery compartment so that they can not be engaged by non-rechargeable batteries within the compartment. This prevents the non-rechargeable batteries from being damaged if the flashlight were inadvertently placed into a charging unit with non-rechargeable batteries in the compartment. The circuitry connecting the batteries to the light bulb includes uniquely structured elements which we quickly and easily connected together to facilitate assembly of the flashlight.

The flashlight includes a one-piece plastic casing having a tubular body portion defining a battery compartment and a right angled head portion in which a light bulb is mounted. The battery compartment is closed by an end cap on which electrical conductive means is mounted to form a part of the battery circuit when non-rechargeable batteries are placed in the compartment. A plurality of charging contacts are mounted on the rear wall of the body portion of the flashlight for enabling rechargeable batteries to be recharged while in the compartment. The charging contacts are recessed within the rear wall of the battery compartment so that they can not be engaged by non-rechargeable batteries within the compartment. A flashlight having a reinforced tubular plastic casing including a battery compartment and a bulb compartment separated by a transverse wall integrally molded with the casing. A bulb is retained in a socket integrally molded with the wall by a bushing which may be quickly connected and disconnected from the socket, the bulb and the bushing being resiliently axially moveable with respect to the socket and the transverse wall to prevent breakage of the bulb due to shock or impact. A novel reflector is axially moveable with respect to the bulb to afford adjustable focussing of the light emitted from the bulb. The reflective surface of the reflector combines a facetted parabolic surface on the outer portion of the reflector with a smooth spherical surface at the base of the reflector to optimize the amount of light collected from the light bulb and focused in the beam. A novel three-position switch assembly includes a one piece plastic actuator having an integrally molded pivotable pushbutton lever which may be actuated to flash the lamp on and off. The actuator is quickly and easily snapped into place in a switch housing to facilitate assembly.

A portable hand carried lantern comprising components which may be quickly snapped together without the use of tools. A battery contact platform separates the battery chamber and bulb chamber and includes a plurality of contact strips by which the electrical circuit is automatically established without the use of wires upon assembly of the components. A safety disconnect system incorporated in the bulb chamber and battery contact platform that prevents explosion in a flammable atmosphere should the bulb break.

Flashlight

A paper roll dispenser which permits easy roll replacement while presenting a decorative appearance is provided for dispensing a roll of paper such as toilet tissue, paper towels or the like. The roll dispenser comprises a bracket having two generally parallel elongated support arms extending therefrom in a direction generally perpendicular to a front face of the bracket such that each support arm is free to rotate about its arm axis. When the paper roll dispenser is in an operative position, a spindle having one end attached to one of the support arms rotatably supports the roll of paper between the support arms. The roll is replaced by rotating the one support arm about its arm axis and thereby moving the spindle into a position wherein it projects generally away from the other support arm whereupon a roll supported by the spindle can be replaced. A stop tab protruding from the front face of the bracket engages an inboard face of the one support arm to limit rotation of that support arm when the spindle is projecting away from the other support arm for roll replacement. Fasteners, such as screws, used to attach the bracket to a support surface are concealed behind the support arms when the support arms are rotated to their operative positions.
