A self-contained, port-closing trocar and method of use which may include an elongated body having a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a side wall between the first end and the second end, the body further including at least two channels therein, each of the channels originating near the second end, running parallel to the elongated body, and curving towards and forming an opening in the side wall near the first end. The self-closing trocar may also include at least two needles, each disposed within one of the at least two channels, and a handle insertable into the second end of the elongated body, the handle having at least two needle drivers coupled thereto, each needle driver being insertable into one of the at least two channels and engagable with an end of a needle.

Self-contained port closure trocar and method of use

A radio system providing long-range radio communications in the presence of a co-located high power jammer or other radio transmitter that is operating in a frequency band overlapping the communications transmit/receive band. The system collects sample signals from co-located overlapping radio. It down-converts the sample signal and the receive radio signal, digitizes the two signals, and utilizes a computer processor to cancel the sample signal from the receive radio signal to output a mitigated output signal.

Digital processing for co-site interference mitigation

Pixel circuits, capable of operating in either 'snapshot' or 'rolling integration' mode, and compatible with a conformal photodiode coating. Preferred embodiments of the present invention are compatible with these coating materials, as well as others, including amorphous Silicon. The preferred pixel circuits includes additional transistors not provided in prior art pixel circuits to divert leakage current away from integration nodes when not integrating, to reset the integration node, and to buffer and select the integrated voltage.

Millimeter wave radio with phase modulation. In preferred embodiments each of the two radios in a link uses a single aperture to transmit radiation in one of the two bands, and receive radiation in the other of the bands. The counterpart radio used to form a link preferably is almost identical, except for the interchange of the transmit and receive frequencies. Preferred embodiments utilize a modulation scheme in which the radios each receive on-off keyed data and transmit the on-off keyed data encoded in a millimeter wave carrier wave with binary phase shift keying.

Millimeter wave radio with phase modulation

A communication system providing wireless communication among wireless users through a number of cellular base stations, each including at least transport management equipment and broadband equipment, at least one of which supports at least remote cellular station including RF equipment for communication with users of cellular devices. The system includes at lease one wireless narrow beam communication link operating at millimeter wave frequencies in excess of 60 GHz connecting a remote cellular station with a cellular base station equipped with broad band conversion electronic equipment and transport management equipment. In preferred embodiment the communication system includes a large number of remote cellular stations with each remote cellular station serving a separate communication cell. Each remote cellular station is equipped with a low frequency wireless transceiver for communicating with the wireless users within the cell at a radio frequency lower than 6 GHz and a narrow beam millimeter wave wireless transceiver operating at a millimeter wave frequency higher than 60 GHz for communicating with another millimeter wave transceiver at another remote cellular station or a millimeter wave transceiver at a base station.

Cellular systems with distributed antennas

A communication system providing wireless communication among wireless users through a number of cellular base stations. At least one of the base stations is a mobile base station in which low and high speed wireless transceivers are mounted on a temporarily stationary mobile vehicle such as a truck trailer or a truck. The system includes at least one connecting station with a millimeter wave wireless transceiver in communication with a fiber optic or high-speed cable communication network. The transceiver is adapted to communicate at millimeter wave frequencies higher than 60 GHz with another millimeter wave transceiver at one of the cellular base stations. Each of the base stations serves a separate communication cell. Each base station is equipped with a low frequency wireless transceiver for communicating with the wireless users within the cell at a radio frequency lower than 6 GHz and a millimeter wave wireless transceiver operating at a millimeter wave frequency higher than 60 GHz for communicating with another millimeter wave transceiver at another base station or a millimeter wave transceiver at said at the connecting station. The base stations are also equipped with data transfer means for transferring data communicated through the low frequency wireless transceiver to the millimeter wave wireless transceiver and for transferring data communicated through the millimeter wave wireless transceiver to the low frequency wireless transceiver. In preferred embodiments the system is a part of a telephone system, an Internet system or a computer network.

Wireless millimeter wave communication system with mobile base station

A CMOS image sensor with a many million pixel count. Applicants have developed techniques for combining its continuous layer photodiode CMOS sensor technology with CMOS integrated circuit lithography stitching techniques to provide digital cameras with an almost unlimited number of pixels. A preferred CMOS stitching technique exploits the precise alignment accuracy of CMOS stepper processes by using specialized mask sets to repeatedly produce a single pixel array pattern many times on a single silicon wafer with no pixel array discontinuities. The single array patterns are stitched together lithographically to form a pixel array of many million pixels. A continuous multilayer photodiode layer is deposited over the top of the many million pixel array to provide a many million pixel sensor with a fill factor of 100 percent or substantially 100 percent.

A communication system providing wireless communication among wireless users through a number of cellular base stations. The system includes a connecting station with a millimeter wave wireless transceiver in communication with a fiber optic or high-speed cable communication network. The transceiver is adapted to communicate at millimeter wave frequencies higher than 60 GHz with another millimeter wave transceiver at one of the cellular base stations. Each of the base stations serves a separate communication cell. Each base station is equipped with a low frequency wireless transceiver for communicating with the wireless users within the cell at a radio frequency lower than 6 GHz. In preferred embodiments the system a part of a telephone system, an Internet system or a computer network.

Wireless communication system

A very low bit rate communication system. In preferred embodiments, an off-the-shelf module is adapted to convert a speaker's voice to text. A processor is provided to separate the text into individual words. The processor is programmed with a dictionary which provides pre-assigned specific 14-bit numeric values to each word in the dictionary (words used more frequently may be assigned shorter codes). The processor creates a numeric stream from 14-bit numeric values and this numeric stream is then transmitted to a receiver. Typical speech contains 4 words/second, so bit rates as low as 50 bits/second may be achieved with this technique. At the receiving end, the stream of received 14-bit numeric values, representing the speaker's words, are looked up in a dictionary identical to that at the transmitting end and the text of the words reconstructed. Text-to-speech techniques common to the industry are then used to regenerate the speech.

Very low bit rate speech transmission system

A disaster alert system and disaster alert devices for use in the system. Each disaster alert device includes a radio receiver, and a processor programmed to monitor radio transmissions from one or more central stations for disaster alerts directed to the location of the disaster alert device. Each alert device also includes an audio unit to alert personnel located at the site of the device to the precise nature of the disaster. The disaster alert devices are pre-programmed with information identifying the precise use location of the warning device. This use location information includes latitude and longitude of the use location and may also include other location information such as street address and zip code. Warnings are broadcast from central stations identifying with latitude and longitude information specific at-risk regions to which the warnings are directed which could be, for example, nationwide, statewide, countywide, or to much smaller regions, such as several houses on a single street or even a single residence. Each disaster alert device is preferably programmed to ignore all warnings directed to at-risk regions that do not include the latitude and longitude of the use location of the device.

Disaster alert device and system

A radio frequency amplifier comprising a circuit board having a boundary shaped in the form of an ellipse and two dielectric layers, a first dielectric layer and a second dielectric layer, enclosed by conductive layers. Radio frequency signals are broadcasted from one of the two foci, the first focus, of the elliptically shaped circuit board through the first dielectric layer and separate portions of the signals are collected at the boundary of the first dielectric layer into a plurality of amplifier circuits. The collected portions are amplified separately in the amplifier circuits with radio frequency amplifiers and each of the amplifier circuits provides the same or approximately the same time delay of its collected signal. The amplified signal from each amplifier circuit is then combined with all other amplified signals in the second dielectric layer by broadcasting the amplified signal into the second dielectric layer at the boundary of the second dielectric layer at a location corresponding to the first dielectric layer boundary location at the input to the amplifier circuit. All of the amplified radio frequency signals combine constructively at the second focus of the elliptical circuit board and the output of the amplifier is extracted at this second focus. This structure has the advantages of being broadband, low-loss, and physically simple.

Radio frequency power amplifier

A high data rate communication system operating at frequencies greater than 70 MHz and at data rates of about 1.25 Gbps or greater. Preferred embodiments include modulators with a resonant LC circuit including a diode which is back-biased for 'off' (i.e., no transmit) and forward biased for 'on' (or transmit). The modulator is a part of high performance transceivers for wireless, millimeter wave communications links. A preferred embodiment provides a communication link of more than eight miles which operates within the 71 to 76 GHz portion of the millimeter spectrum and provides data transmission rates of 1.25 Gbps with bit error rates of less than 10. A first transceiver transmits at a first bandwidth and receives at a second bandwidth both within the above spectral range. A second transceiver transmits at the second bandwidth and receives at the first bandwidth. The transceivers are equipped with antennas providing beam divergence small enough to ensure efficient spatial and directional partitioning of the data channels so that an almost unlimited number of transceivers will be able to simultaneously use the same spectrum. In a preferred embodiment the first and second spectral ranges are 71.8+/&#x2212;0.63 GHz and 73.8+/&#x2212;0.63 GHz and the half power beam width is about 0.2 degrees or less. Preferably, a backup transceiver set is provided which would take over the link in the event of very bad weather conditions. In other embodiments especially useful for mobile applications at least one of the transceivers include a GPS locator.

Millimeter wave communications system with a high performance modulator circuit

A wireless cellular communication system in which groups of cellular base stations communicate with a central office via a narrow-band millimeter wave trunk line. The transceivers are equipped with antennas providing beam divergence small enough to ensure efficient spatial and directional partitioning of the data channels so that an almost unlimited number of transceivers will be able to simultaneously use the same millimeter wave spectrum. In a preferred embodiment the trunk line communication link operates within the 92 to 95 GHz portion of the millimeter spectrum. A large number of base stations are each allocated a few MHz portion of a 900 MHz bandwidth of the millimeter wave trunk line. A first transceiver transmits at a first bandwidth and receives at a second bandwidth both within the above spectral range. A second transceiver transmits at the second bandwidth and receives at the first bandwidth. Antennas are described to maintain beam directional stability to less than one-half the half-power beam width. In a preferred embodiment the first and second spectral ranges are 92.3&#x2013;93.2 GHz and 94.1&#x2013;95.0 GHz and the half power beam width is about 0.36 degrees or less. Thus, in this system the low frequency band width is efficiently utilized over and over again by dividing a territory into small cells and using low power antenna. And a higher frequency bandwidth is efficiently utilized over and over again by using transmitting antennae that are designed to produce very narrow beams directed at receiving antennae. In a preferred embodiment cellular base stations are prepackaged for easy quick installation at convenient locations such as the tops of commercial buildings.

An apparatus and method for aligning the antennas of two transceivers of a point-to-point wireless millimeter wave communications link. A narrow band oscillator power source is substituted for the signal transmitting electronics associated with a first antenna and a power detector is substituted for the signal receiving electronics associated with a second antenna. In preferred embodiments after a first alignment procedure is performed, the procedure is repeated with an oscillator power source connected to the second antenna and a power detector connected to the first antenna. In other preferred embodiments the antennas are pre-aligned using a signaling mirror or a narrow beam search light or laser. After the antennas are aligned the transceiver electronics are reconnected. In preferred embodiments the communication link operates within the 92 to 95 GHz portion of the millimeter spectrum and provides data transmission rates in excess of 155 Mbps.
