Provided is a method for forming a coating containing an organic acid in a glass sheet production line while controlling an increase in the haze ratio of the glass. The method of the present invention is a method for producing a coated glass sheet, the method including the steps of cutting a glass ribbon to form a plurality of glass sheets in a glass sheet production line; and applying a solution onto the glass ribbon or the plurality of glass sheets in the glass sheet production line, the solution containing an organic acid and at least one selected from a water-soluble polymer and a polyphosphoric acid salt. The water-soluble polymer is preferably a water-soluble high-molecular-weight polymer, and more preferably a water-soluble copolymer. A preferred water-soluble copolymer contains a vinylpyrrolidone unit.

Glass sheet on which is formed coating suitable for preventing weathering and method for producing same

A process for the production of an optoelectronic device, such as a photovoltaic cell or a light emitting diode is disclosed. The process comprises providing a substrate having a conductive coating on at least one surface, the conductive coating having an initial roughness and at least one or more spikes, and applying a functional component to the coated surface of the substrate. The surface of the substrate having the conductive coating has been subjected to a polishing step using at least one brush to reduce the height of the spikes inherent to the conductive coating and to give the conductive coating a final roughness. By reducing the spikes there is less potential for the optoelectronic device to suffer from electrical shunts which reduce the efficiency of the device.

Polishing coated substrates

An intrusion resistant laminated glazing, suitable for automotive use, comprises an impact resistant ply of rigid thermoplastic polyurethane sensitive to ultra-violet radiation and, outside said ply, an ultra-violet absorbing or reflecting ply. The ultra-violet absorbing ply may be of thermoplastic polyurethane interlayer material which serves to bond the rigid thermoplastic polyurethane ply to outer glass plies. By using interlayer materials of low modulus to bond the rigid thermoplastic ply to outer glass plies, a product with good impact resistance and intrusion resistance is achieved.

Laminated glazings

An improved plasticized polyvinyl chloride interlayer for laminated safety glass, and an improved method of manufacturing a laminated safety glass including such plasticized polyvinyl chloride containing film is disclosed. An improved functional silane adhesion promoter is utilized in such a manner so as to impact energy dissipation is maximized while structural integrity is maintained. The plasticized polyvinyl chloride interlayer is formulated so as to provide improved long term heat stability at service use temperatures.

An alignment layer for a liquid crystal display consists at least substantially of a polyphenylene polymer wherein at least 80% of the said polyphenylene polymer is composed of aromatic phenylene rings. The alignment layer is capable of providing a homogeneous alignment of liquid crystal molecules disposed adjacent thereto with a high tilt bias angle.

Liquid crystal devices

An aqueous suspension of micro-organism cells containing a 3-hydroxybutyrate polymer are subjected to a proteolytic enzyme digestion and/or a surfactant digestion in order to solubilise cell material other than the 3-hydroxybutyrate polymer. Prior to, or during the digestion, but before any proteolytic enzyme digestion step, the suspension is heated to at least 80.degree. C. to denature nucleic acids which otherwise hinder separation of the 3-hydroxybutyrate polymer containing residue from the suspension.

Separation process

A rectifier column for a vapor generator means of a heat transfer system having a reflux inlet and modulating means at said inlet responsive to a condition representative of the quality of the vapor being generated so as to control the flow of reflux into the column thereby maintaining optimum vapor generation. In one arrangement the modulating means comprises a temperature sensitive actuator, e.g. a wax filled bellows which is situated in the path of the generated vapor at the output of the column.

A process for the preparation of a polyphenylene layer which comprises the steps of treating a copolycyclohexa-3,4-diene under first conditions to aromatize a portion of the aromatic rings and then under second conditions to aromatize the residual cyclohexadiene rings from the first treatment.

Degradation of body-waste bags to assist disposal thereof in sewage systems is facilitated by addition of a base to raise the pH of the human fecal waste bag contents to at least about 12. Inter alia, there is provided a package of at least one bag and sufficient base, preferably in prepacked quantities, to treat all the bags in the package.

Shaped articles can be made by extruding, or injection moulding, a composition containing at least 50% by weight of dried cells of a micro-organism containing a .beta.-hydroxybutyrate polymer. In order to make the composition melt processable the cells are subjected to a cell wall breakage step before or after drying and, if necessary, are mixed with an extracted .beta.-hydroxybutyrate polymer.

A solvent-free preform of a 3-hydroxybutyric acid polymer is subjected to a compression step to reduce its thickness by at least 5% and the compressed preform is then drawn uni- or bi- axially to induce orientation.

3-Hydroxybutyric acid polymers

Polymer blends containing (i) 0.2-95% by weight of a high molecular weight .beta.-hydroxybutyric acid homo- or copolymer and (ii) a polymer containing at least 25% by weight of chlorine or nitrile groups, such as chlorinated polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, or a high acrylonitrile resin. In small quantities the .beta.-hydroxybutyric acid polymer acts as a processing aid for the chlorine or nitrile containing polymer. In larger quantities the properties of the .beta.-hydroxybutyric acid polymer or the chlorine or nitrile containing polymer are improved.
