Jitter application techniques are described for vector objects as implemented by a vector object jitter application system. In an implementation, the vector object jitter application system receives an input defining a stroke to be drawn on a user interface. A vector object is then generated representing the stroke and having a variable width determined by applying jitter to the stroke. The vector object having the variable width is displayed in the user interface as the input is received.

Methods, systems, and non-transitory computer readable storage media are disclosed for losslessly exchanging image layer data between image applications by generating an edit-restricted layer for one image application to represent an incompatible or unsupported image layer from another image application. For example, the disclosed system can determine that one or more image layers in a layered image file formatted for a layered image application include characteristics incompatible (e.g., unsupported) with a feature-restricted image application. The disclosed system can then generate an edit-restricted image layer representing the image layer(s) in the feature-restricted image application by limiting or preventing edit operations to the edit-restricted layer as a type of preview object. The disclosed system can also store image layer data from the feature-restricted image application back to the layered image file for viewing and editing in the layered image application without loss of image layer data corresponding to the edit-restricted layer.

Losslessly exchanging image layer data between image editing applications

Techniques are disclosed for performing flood-fill operations on vector artwork. In one embodiment, a region under a point of interest (POI) of vector artwork is rasterized and flood-filled, and an initial bounding shape around that area is used as a first guess as to the area to be filled. In other cases, the initial bounding shape is created around some initial area that includes the POI (no rasterization). In any such case, vector objects having bounding shapes that intersect the initial bounding shape are identified and fed into a planar map. After map planarization, a new bounding shape is created around a new area resulting from the planarizing and that includes the POI. In response to that bounding shape not extending beyond the initial bounding shape, a vector-based flood-fill operation can be performed on that new area. The process repeats if a new bounding shape extends beyond previous bounding shape.

A method and apparatus for filtering pressure data from a pressure-sensitive device is disclosed. A computer implemented method for filtering pressure data from a pressure-sensitive device comprises receiving, from a pressure sensitive device, a raw pressure value for a stroke, filtering the raw pressure value for the stroke to determine a filtered pressure value, and computing a width of a stroke based on the filtered pressure value.

Systems and methods are provided for smoothing paths in a graphical interface generated by drawing inputs. One embodiment involves determining a value of a motion attribute associated with a drawing input to a graphical interface. The embodiment also involves modifying a value of a smoothing parameter for a smoothing operation based on the determined value of the motion attribute. The smoothing parameter at least partially determines an amount of smoothing performed by a smoothing operation on input points generated by the drawing input. The embodiment also involves generating a path for rendering in the graphical interface. The path can be generated by applying the smoothing operation to the input points using the determined value of the smoothing parameter.

Method and apparatus for filtering pressure data from a pressure-sensitive device

A computer-based aggregated security investment service interacts with one or more customers via one or more communication links. The service allows multiple customers to execute aggregated purchase orders of securities in dollar increments. Customers setting up accounts have the ability to select numerous different types of individual, joint, conventional, or tax advantaged accounts. The present invention also provides a mechanism for reducing the exposure of the investment service to purchases of securities with fluctuating prices by staggering share purchases as two or more sub-orders. Finally, the present invention provides a method of producing customized communications for users associated with a non-affiliated organization without requiring separate hardware components for each organization.

Input is received that selects an animation aspect associated with an object within an animation. The animation involves the object and an original frame of reference through which the animation is displayed, and the selected animation aspect is one that changes over time with respect to the original frame of reference. The animation is displayed through a new frame of reference defined by holding the selected animation aspect constant over time. During the animation display through the new frame of reference, input is received that manipulates the object to create a new animation aspect associated with the object. The new animation aspect associated with the object is recorded in the animation.

A method and apparatus for defining a smooth shading across an object for display on a raster output device. The method including converting the object to a mesh, rendering the mesh displaying the object having a shading defined by the mesh and editing the mesh until a desired result is achieved in the displayed object. The method may include a method for defining a gradient across an object for display on a raster output device where the object includes a boundary comprising multisegment edges in which the method includes selecting the object and finding the boundary for the object. Thereafter a bounding box is created including four corners that encloses the object boundary. Four points on the boundary of the object are identified that are closest to the four corners of the boundary box. A single patch mesh may be constructed from the four points and segments connecting pairs of the four points. The single patch mesh may be further divided to create a series of patches defining the gradient where patch boundaries correspond to segment vertices in the multisegment edges of the boundary of the object.

Smooth shading of an object

A computer-implemented method for aligning objects includes receiving a current cursor position, receiving task information and receiving a set of alignments each having an associated priority. The method also includes screening the set of alignments based on task information and a predetermined set of priority factors, determining a highest priority alignment, and outputting a new cursor position corresponding to the highest priority alignment if such an alignment exists.
