A pig for use in a pipeline is provided for determining the material of the pipeline in the context of an inline inspection. The pig includes a position determination unit and at least one braking arrangement for immobilizing the pig at a certain position in the pipeline. The pig also includes an X-ray fluorescence sensor.

An inspection device for examining pipelines is provided, and comprises a sensor carrier which in operation is rollable through the pipeline. The sensor carrier has an at least essentially circular circumference in a cross section that runs transverse to an axis of rotation. The sensor carrier also has at least one sensor unit. The sensor carrier further comprises at least one stabilizing means, preferably a multitude disposed along the circumference.

A seal element is provided for a pipeline pig, which is transferable from a propulsion position into a sealing position. T in which the seal element presses against an inside of a pipeline wall. The seal element has at least one preferably ring-shaped hollow body, which can be filled with fluid and emptied. The seal element is transferable between propulsion position and sealing position.

A method for positioning and/or communicating with a pig located in a hollow and elongate object is provided. The object is preferably a pipeline. At least one inner transducer of the pig is arranged on the inner side of a wall of the object. At least one outer transducer is arranged on an outer side of the wall of the object, and at least one ultrasound signal is generated in the wall. By means of an evaluation and/or communication device, and from the amplitude of the ultrasound signal preferably generated by the inner transducer, and in particular from a change of the amplitude, a relative position and/or a spacing A between the two transducers is derived and/or a communication is initiated via the transducers.

Method for positioning and/or communicating with a pig

A cleaning pig for a pipeline for long-distance transportation of a fluid material is advanced in the pipeline in a travel direction by the fluid material transported in the pipeline. The cleaning pig has a pig body and two collars connected to the pig body and spaced apart from one another. The pig body and the collars fill a pipe cross-section of the pipeline. An intermediate space is delimited between the two collars. A pressure opening is arranged at a trail end of the pig body in the travel direction. A pressure conduit connects the pressure opening to the intermediate space. A suction device is arranged in the intermediate space. A suction outlet is connected by a suction conduit to the suction device. The pressure conduit is connected to at least one jet opening directed with a jet action against an inner wall of the pipeline.
