A method for manufacturing a roll mantle or roll body for a roll line of a continuous casting apparatus that has a shaft includes casting a metal to form the roll mantle or roll body such that the roll mantle or roll body includes at least one internal channel. The roll mantle or roll body has a first end region, a second end region and a central region between the first end region and the second end region, the central region extending along at least 50% of a length of the roll mantle or roll body, and the internal channel may be formed in the central region. The internal channel may also include a pattern or projection.

Method of forming a roll body or roll mantle

A roller bearing ring having at least one raceway. The raceway provides a first and a second axial end and a diameter of the first axial end and a diameter of the second axial end are either both greater than the mean diameter of the raceway or both less than the mean diameter of the raceway. The roller bearing ring includes a projection, which is on the same side of the bearing ring as the raceway and which limits the raceway without being a part of the raceway.

A roll mantle or roll body configured to be mounted on a shaft of a roll line of a continuous casting apparatus, the roll mantle or roll body being formed by casting and having at least one internal channel. The roll mantle or roll body has a first end region, a second end region and a central region in between the first end region, and the second end region extends along at least 50% of the length of the roll mantle or roll body. The at least one internal channel may be located in the central region and may include a feature such as a pattern or projection.

The invention comprises a non-rotating shaft for supporting a mechanical element of a roll segment in a continuous casting machine, having an essentially circular cross-section. The circular cross-section presents a portion having a smooth peripheral, wherein the distance between any point of the portion and a center of the circular cross-section is shorter than a radius of the circular cross-section. Furthermore, the circular cross-section presenting the portion extends axially, which defines a section of the shaft meant to a least partly receive the mechanical element, and the section of the shaft is meant to receive a load at least partly at the portion. In addition, according to a second aspect, the invention comprises a segment roll for a continuous casting machine, which comprises the non-rotating shaft according to the first aspect.

Non-rotating shaft for a continuous casting machine

A segment roll for use in a continuous casting machine includes a number of roll segments axially spaced apart and supported in bearings on a non-rotating shaft. Each roll segment is a self-contained unit including a sleeve-shaped outer mantle, an internal sleeve disposed coaxially within the outer mantle, and a bearing assembly disposed radially between the outer mantle and the inner sleeve within an annular recess disposed at each end of the roll segment. Each bearing assembly is spaced from an inner envelope surface of the internal sleeve and includes a bearing and a seal, wherein the internal sleeve is in non-rotatable contact with the non-rotating sleeve.
