A technology is described for direction finding. An example of the technology can include executing stages of an N stage search for a direction finding estimate of a plane wave X. The stages of the N stage search include searching a search space in a calibration set having a plurality of points in space and calculating a direction finding estimate, wherein a first search space is a coarse set of points in space and subsequent search spaces selected for subsequent stages of the N stage search are increasingly finer sets of points in the space, and a solution for the direction finding estimate output by a stage of the N stage search is used to select a next search space for a next stage of the N stage search. A direction finding estimate output by a final stage of the N stage search is the final direction finding estimate.

Staged search radio direction finding

According to one embodiment, an integrated patch antenna may comprise a radome layer, having an outside surface and an inside surface, and a radiating layer. The radiating layer has a top surface and a bottom surface, the top surface of the radiating layer conforming to the shape of the inside surface of the radome layer. The radiating layer comprises a dielectric layer, a radiating element formed on a first side of the dielectric layer, and a moat formed in the dielectric layer around its perimeter forming an inner perimeter sidewall and an outer perimeter sidewall. The radiating layer also comprises a conductive coating disposed on the inner perimeter sidewall or the outer perimeter sidewall and a feed line disposed on a second side of the dielectric substrate.

Integrated patch antenna

According to one embodiment, a heat dissipation system includes an elongated radar absorbing member configured with a thermal dissipation mechanism. The radar absorbing member extends proximate a junction of a microwave antenna enclosure that houses an antenna and a radome that covers an opening in the microwave antenna enclosure. The radar absorbing member absorbs electro-magnetic energy incident upon the junction. The thermal dissipation mechanism absorbs heat generated by the absorbed electro-magnetic energy.

In one embodiment according to the teachings of the present disclosure, an antenna generally includes a first, second, and third elements. The first and second elements form a first electro-magnetic radiator that is operable to transmit or receive a first signal having a first sense of polarization. The first and third elements form a second electro-magnetic radiator that is operable to transmit or receive a second signal having a second sense of polarization that is different than the first sense of polarization.
