A method is provided for manufacturing a paper layer having a printed pattern for use in panels that at least include a substrate and a top layer. The top layer includes the paper layer. The method may involve providing the paper layer with an inkjet receiver coating by transporting the paper layer relative to a coater in a coating direction. The coated paper layer may be provided with at least a portion of the printed pattern using a digital inkjet printer that includes a housing containing print heads. Providing the printed pattern may involve using water based pigment containing inks. The printed pattern may include a wood motif having wood nerves extending generally in a nerve direction substantially corresponding to the coating direction. Providing the printed pattern may involve a relative motion between the digital inkjet printer and the paper layer during a printing operation in a printing direction substantially corresponding or substantially opposite to the coating direction. The paper layer may be maintained flat inside the housing, or the minimum radius over which the paper layer is bent inside the housing may be larger than 25 centimeters. The paper layer may be fed from a roll, printed upon, and rolled back up again. The inkjet receiver coating may be obtained from a liquid substance that is deposited on the paper layer. The liquid substance may have a viscosity of 10 to 75 seconds Din cup 4 at 20° C.

A method of preparing a first and second lithographic printing plate for lithographic printing of a color digital image on a receiver wherein the color digital image includes a plurality of colorant separations; the method including the steps of jetting droplets by an inkjet CTP system on a first lithographic support for the first lithographic printing plate thereby forming a printing area of a first lithographic image which represents a first colorant separation of the plurality of colorant separations; and jetting droplets by the inkjet CTP system on a second lithographic support for the second lithographic printing plate thereby forming a printing area of a second lithographic image which represents a second colorant separation of the plurality of colorant separations; and wherein the method of preparing a first and second lithographic printing plates is characterized by forming a part of or whole the first and second lithographic image in a print pass by the inkjet CTP system.

A manufacturing method of decorative laminates includes the steps of: a) printing an ink acceptance layer by jetting droplets having a volume of 1 to 200 nL onto a paper substrate; b) forming a decorative layer by jetting ink droplets having a volume of up to 30 pL of one or more aqueous pigmented inkjet inks onto the dried ink acceptance layer; and c) heat pressing the decorative layer into a decorative laminate; wherein the ink acceptance layer contains an inorganic pigment P and a polymeric binder B in a weight ratio P/B larger than 1.5.

An ink jet print head is provided having an ink chamber and a nozzle plate closing the ink chamber at an end comprising a nozzle for ejecting a drop of ink through it. The nozzle plate further includes an ink path for flowing an ink through in a direction parallel with the nozzle plate and passing the inner end of the nozzle. This ink flow is in excess of that required for replenishing the ejected drops of ink in the ink chamber and may flow continuously passed the inner end of the nozzle and along the ink path to refresh the ink that is used for ejecting through the nozzle.

Ink jet print head with improved reliability

A dot matrix printer and printing method for being able to print a dot matrix on a printing medium using a plurality of marking elements on a printing head is described. A set of combinations of firing order of the plurality of marking elements is determined as well as a sequence of relative translation movements between the printing medium and the printing head so that all the dots in the dot matrix can be printed by application of each of the set of combinations, and any dot in the dot matrix can be printed by at least a first and a second equivalent marking element from a set of equivalent marking elements. For printing sets of dots in the dot matrix, a first equivalent marking element is selected from the set of equivalent marking elements to print the set of dots as part of a first firing order. If a pre-set number of equivalent marking elements of the set of equivalent marking elements are defective, the printing head is reconfigured so that other sets of at least first and second equivalent marking elements are determined.

Printing method and apparatus for back-up of defective marking elements

A dot matrix printing method is provided for printing an image on a printing medium with a printing head and having an array of equally spaced marking elements. The marking elements are spaced apart by a distance 'x' in a slow scan direction and there is a first relative linear movement between the printing head and the printing medium in a fast scan direction perpendicular to the slow scan direction. The method includes printing the image as at least one set of monochromatic mutually interstitially printed sub-images wherein at least one of the number of sub-images and a sequence in which the printing of the sub-images is performed is settable by the user. An apparatus for dot matrix printing an image on a printing medium is also provided.

Printing methods and apparatus for mutually interstitial printing and optional interlacing

A multipass printer and printing method is described for printing an image on a sheet printing medium using a page wide printing head. A transporting device provides relative movement between the sheet printing media and a first print head. A series of sheet printing media are presented to the first print head for printing in sequence. The first print head prints a first sub-image of at least one set of monochromatic mutually interstitially printed sub-images of a first image onto a first sheet of printing medium of the series in one pass. A sub-image of an image is printed in succession on each remaining one of the series of sheet printing media followed by printing a further sub-image of the at least one set of monochromatic mutually interstitially printed sub-images of the first image onto the first sheet printing medium.

Printing methods and apparatus for multi-pass printing

A method and apparatus of printing an image onto a medium uses a system having an elongate printhead with an array of marking elements including at least one distinctive group. The marking elements form at least one row, the direction of which forms a longitudinal axis of the printhead. The printhead is driven in a fast scan direction to print marks on the medium along a swath, and the medium and the printhead are movable relative to each other in a slow scan direction to print further swaths. The system is such that two adjacent marking elements of a group are operable with a time difference but are not operable simultaneously without causing defects. The printhead operates to print parallel lines at a non-zero angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the printhead. Printing passes are repeated in the fast scan direction to print at intermediate positions between the parallel lines to print the complete image.

Multi-resolution printing method and printing device

A dot matrix printing method is provided for printing an image on a printing medium with reduced banding, by moving, with respect to the medium, a printing head in a fast scan direction during a plurality of printing passes. The method comprises writing the image during the plurality of printing passes by mutually interstitial printing steps and/or interlacing steps, wherein the writing step comprises moving the medium with a transport distance step in a slow scan direction perpendicular to the fast scan direction between the printing passes of the at least two sub-images. The sum of all transport distance steps after writing one swath of each sub-image is exactly one head length, and the transport distance steps are performed in at least two different step lengths. An apparatus for dot matrix printing an image using sub-images, and transport distance steps with at least two different step lengths, is also provided.

Fast mutually interstitial printing

The present invention describes a method for printing, with one type of printhead, with a resolution that differs from the resolution of the type of printhead used. In the method according to the present invention, the speed in the fast scan direction is changed with reference to a reference velocity which the printhead is intended to be driven with, while preferably keeping the firing frequency of the sets of nozzles unchanged. The firing order of the may or may not be changed.
