A method is provided for printing games such as poker hands on two-piece frustoconical containers with four cards up and one down on the container sidewall and a hole card or draw card on the bottom of the container. The sidewalls are formed from blanks printed in a sequence by four, five, six and seven-around printing cylinders, all of which impress one card identity indicia on each printed cup blank on a strip of stock passed through the array of cylinders. A strip of bottom blanks each bearing a single card identity are printed in sequence by an eleven-around printing cylinder and the sidewall blanks and bottom blanks are assembled in the printed sequence to provide at least 4,620 cups all bearing poker hands with no two cups bearing identical hands. None of the card identity indicia on the several rolls is repeated. A total of thrity-three different indicia is used in the present method.

A two-piece frustoconical container is provided with a scalloped sidewall having a lowermost depressed edge portion opposite to an uppermost edge portion in a scoop configuration engageable with foods in bulk as a scoop. When filled with food product the container will stand alone. A lapped side seam extends from the base to the uppermost edge portion to lend stiffness to the scoop configuration. A parallel vertical strip decor is provided over the major portion of the interior surface of the container and is printed thereon by a method which obviates the need to provide registry of the printing on the front and back surfaces of the strip stock from which each sidewall blank is cut. The rear surface of the strip stock is printed with a parallel chevron design, with or without occlusion of the apices of the chevrons, as desired, the apices and the printed sidewall blanks on the front surface being centered on the strip stock and the legs of the chevrons being at the same included angle and orientation as the side seam-forming ends of the sidewall blank. When the sidewall blanks are blanked (cut) from the strip stock and the ends lapped to form a side seam, the stripes at the seam and around the major portion of the interior of the thus formed frustoconical sidewall will appear parallel and be vertically disposed between the bottom and open end of the container.

A sheet plastic lid for open-mouthed containers with a tear-away section therein is provided in which the tear-away section is removable by an upward and outward motion. A raised central area of the central web of the lid merges with the top surface of the rim or bead cavity and contains score lines defining a central tear tab and a major portion of the tear-away section, the lines diverging and stopping substantially inboard of the top surface of the bead cavity. Then with the lid on a container, when the tab is freed by penetrating the raised area at the innermost score lines it is pulled upward and outward to constrain the divergent score lines to effect predictable tears through the bead or rim cavity structure to remove the tear-away segment and leave the remainder of the lid intact on the container. The tear-away segment is provided with a relatively deep walled cavity defined therein such that the outermost wall of the cavity is juxtaposed with a container adjacent the rim thereof to render the tear-away segment replaceable on the container.
