One embodiment is a method for counting charge events detected by a pixel in a photon-counting computed tomography (PCCT) scanning system comprising a plurality of discriminators, wherein each discriminator is associated with a respective one of a plurality of threshold voltage levels. The method includes detecting a signal output from one of the discriminators; incrementing a quantitative count corresponding to the threshold voltage level associated with the one of the discriminators if the detected discriminator output signal meets a first condition; and incrementing a qualitative count if the detected discriminator output signal meets at least one second condition.

There is disclosed herein examples of systems and methods for compressing a signal. Samples of the signal can be segmented and the samples within each of the segments can be averaged to produce a value that can represent the samples within the segment. The number of samples to average in each segment may be determined based on an error threshold, such that the number of samples being averaged can be maximized to produce less data to be transmitted while maintaining the representation of the samples within the error threshold. In some embodiments, a signal can be separated into a timing reference, a representative periodic function, and a highly compressible error signal. The error signal can be utilized for reproducing a representation of the signal.

One embodiment is circuitry for implementing a baseline restoration ('BLR') circuit for a photon-counting computed tomography (“PCCT”) signal chain, the circuitry comprising a multi-level discriminator circuit for receiving a shaper voltage from the PCCT signal chain, the discriminator circuit outputting a digital signal indicative of one of a range of voltages within which the shaper voltage falls; a digital-to-analog converter (“DAC”) connected to receive the digital signal output from the discriminator circuit, the DAC converting the received digital signal to a corresponding active reference voltage; and a feedback circuit that injects a cancellation current proportional to the difference between the shaper voltage and the active reference voltage at the input of the PCCT signal chain.

Herein disclosed are approaches for protecting sensitive information within a fingerprint authentication system that can be snooped and utilized to access the device, secured information, or a secured application. The approaches can utilize encryption keys and hash functions that are unique to the device in which the fingerprint authentication is being performed to protect the sensitive information that can be snooped.

An apparatus and method for performing foreign object detection for a wireless power transmitter. A matching network and transmit coil are energized, and a resonance is excited. The resonance is allowed to decay. A temporal characteristic of the decay is measured. The temporal characteristic is analyzed to determine whether a foreign object is coupled to an electromagnetic field generated by the transmit coil.

A sensor module for a wearable vital sign monitoring device is disclosed. The sensor module includes a substrate having a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The sensor module also includes a sensor die mounted to the first side of the substrate. The sensor die is configured to monitor a vital sign of a user. The sensor module further includes a waterproof coating that conformally covers the sensor die, at least a portion of the first side of the substrate, and at least a portion of the second side of the substrate.

Systems and methods described herein relate to fingerprint-on-display recognition. In particular, the systems and methods described herein may recognize a fingerprint when a finger of a user is placed on a display and authenticate the user based on the recognized fingerprint. Further, the embodiments described herein may utilize multiple colors and/or secondary factors to reduce erroneous authentications of the user. The approaches may improve the accuracy of fingerprint authentication by using the multiple colors and/or secondary factors.

Techniques for wirelessly charging smart textiles, such as smart garments, are provided. Aspects of the present application provide a smart garment device with an array of integrated coils and rectifiers that enable wireless charging of the device from a drawer or other enclosure that produces a roughly uniform AC magnetic field. The smart garment can draw power from the magnetic field once placed within the enclosure, regardless of how the garment is placed in the enclosure. The method can be applied to garments of any shape, and multiple garments can be charged simultaneously by placing the multiple garments into the same magnetic field.

Various examples are provided for wireless power charging for versatile receiver positions. In one example, a three dimensional array of transmitter coils is positioned around a charging area. A control circuit causes the array of transmitter coils to generate a magnetic field that charges a device with any position and orientation in the charging area.

Apparatus and methods for sensing current carried by one or more planar conductors is described. A plurality of sensing coils may be fabricated adjacent to one or more planar, current-carrying conductors. The sensing coils may be arranged to cancel uniform and linear-gradient magnetic fields.

Apparatus and methods for dual-mode wireless power transfer are described. Two power transmit coils may be configured to provide magnetic resonant and magnetic inductance wireless power transfer from a same charging area of a wireless power transmitter. The coils and magnetic backing may be arranged to provide similar power transfer performance for the two power transfer methodologies.

A wireless charging in-band communication system includes a channel encoding for message error correction and detection. A modulation module performs biphase modulation for DC balanced signals and impedance switching to change reflected impedance seen by the source. A synchronization module prepends the message with a synchronization sequence having Golay complementary codes. A receiver module receives the message from the transmitter module. A preamble detection block has a Golay complementary code correlator used for message detection, synchronization, and equalization coefficient estimation and selection. A decoding module that performs biphase demodulation with error correction with a DC offset being estimated as the average value of the signal over the length of the message before channel decoding. The decoding module performs equalization, error correction and detection channel decoding.
