Systems and methods for optical imaging are disclosed. An optical sensor for imaging a biometric input object on a sensing region includes a transparent layer having a first side and a second side opposite the first side; a set of apertures disposed above the first side of the transparent layer; a first set of reflective surfaces disposed below the second side of the transparent layer configured to receive light transmitted through the first set of apertures and to reflect the received light; a second set of reflective surfaces disposed above the first side of the transparent layer configured to receive the light reflected from the first set of reflective surfaces and to further reflect the light; and a plurality of detector elements positioned to receive the further reflected light from the second set of reflective surfaces.

Fingerprint sensors include a plurality of optical sensor elements, a collimator filter disposed above the plurality of optical sensor elements, and a display disposed above the collimator filter, wherein the display is a fingerprint imaging light source. The collimator filter has a plurality of apertures, and the plurality of optical sensor elements is configured to receive light transmitted through one aperture of the plurality of apertures.

Disclosed is a device comprising: a light guide configured to receive incident light from one or more light sources; a cover layer with a sensing surface configured to receive an input object to be sensed; and a set of photodetectors. The light guide includes diffraction gratings configured to diffract the incident light as diffracted light, wherein the diffracted light exits the light guide and travels towards the sensing surface. The diffracted light is reflected from the sensing surface as reflected light. The reflected light is sensed by the set of photodetectors to form an image of the input object.

Systems and methods for optical imaging based on diffraction gratings

Systems and methods for optical imaging using an optical sensor in an active area of the display are described. The optical sensor includes a set of detector elements positioned in a detector plane; a transparent layer; and a set of first reflective surfaces in the transparent layer. Each reflective surface in the first set of reflective surfaces is positioned to receive light from a portion of a sensing region of the display and to reflect the received light. The optical sensor further includes a second set of reflective surfaces, each reflective surface in the second set of reflective surfaces is positioned to receive the transmitted light from the first set of reflective surfaces, and to further reflect the received light towards one of the set of detector elements.

Disclosed is a device for optical sensing, comprising: a display comprising a transparent substrate and a plurality of light emitters disposed above the transparent substrate; a transparent cover layer disposed above the display, wherein a top surface of the transparent cover layer provides an input surface for sensing an input object; and, an angled filter disposed below the transparent substrate of the display, wherein the angled filter is configured to allow light within a tolerance angle of an acceptance angle to pass through the angled filter, wherein the acceptance angle is centered around a non-zero angle relative to a normal of the input surface.

An input device includes a transparent layer having a top surface and a bottom surface, and an inner layer positioned below and directly contacting the bottom surface of the transparent layer, wherein the inner layer has a second index of refraction (n) that is lower than a first index of refraction (n) of the transparent layer, and wherein a first region of the transparent layer extends past an end of the inner layer. Systems and methods for optical imaging are disclosed. The optical fingerprint sensor includes an image sensor array; a collimator filter layer disposed above the image sensor array, the collimator filter layer having an array of apertures; and an illumination layer disposed above the collimator filter layer. The collimator filter layer filters reflected light such that only certain of the reflected light beams reach optical sensing elements in the image sensor array. Employing the collimator filter layer prevents blurring while allowing for a lower-profile image sensor.

An optical sensor system includes a display substrate, display pixel circuitry including a plurality of light emitting display elements or pixels disposed over the display substrate, a first circular polarizer disposed over the display substrate and the display pixel circuitry, and a transparent cover sheet disposed over the first circular polarizer. Systems and methods for reducing unwanted reflections in display systems incorporating an under display biometric sensor

A transparent sensor pattern suitable for sensing fingerprint information in a display area is disclosed. The sensor pattern includes a receiver electrode extending in a first direction and a transmitter electrode extending in a second direction different from the first direction. The receiver electrode includes a conductive trace made from an opaque metal material and the receiver electrode is substantially free of transparent conductive material. The transmitter electrode includes a conductive segment made from a transparent conductive material. A dielectric material is disposed between the receiver electrode and the transmitter electrode, and the dielectric material electrically insulates the receiver electrode from the transmitter electrode.

Embodiments described herein include a display device that includes a display substrate coupled to a frame. A stiffener substrate is also coupled to the frame. A first force sensing element is disposed on the stiffener substrate, and the stiffener substrate is disposed between the first force sensing element and the display substrate. The display device also includes a second force sensing element, where a distance between the first force sensing element and the second force sensing element decreases when the display substrate is deflected.

Embodiments herein describe an input device that includes a rectangular array of sensor electrodes connected to sensor modules that measure capacitive sensing signals corresponding to the electrodes. When performing code division multiplexing (CDM), multiple sensor electrodes are coupled to the same sensor module. As such, the sensor module generates a measurement that represents the sum of the charges on the sensor electrodes rather than an individual charge on a single sensor electrode. By repeatedly sensing multiple sensor electrodes in parallel, the input device can determine a change of capacitance for each individual sensor electrode.
