An air tool comprising a barrel; a main body portion from which the barrel extends; a sleeve secured to an exterior of the barrel, the sleeve connected to the barrel by a retaining ring wherein the sleeve provides for a gripping location by an operator and wherein the retaining ring facilitates rotation of the sleeve relative to the barrel when the tool is operation.

In one illustrative embodiment, a grinder may comprise an arbor configured to rotate about a first axis and to support a grinding wheel for rotation therewith, a gear surrounding a first portion of the arbor and having a slip fit with the first portion of arbor, a motor configured to drive rotation of a drive train including the gear, a collar surrounding a second portion of the arbor and having an interference fit with the second portion of the arbor such that the collar is constrained for rotation with the arbor about the first axis, and at least one spring disposed between the gear and the collar and configured to exert a biasing force along the first axis such that one or more resulting friction forces cause the arbor to rotate with the gear when a torque exerted on the gear is less than a threshold torque.

A swinging weight assembly for an impact tool includes an anvil having an impact jaw that is reinforced with a circumferential flange. A hammer includes a hammer lug and a cam lug for pivoting the hammer between an engaged position in which the hammer lug strikes the impact jaw and a disengaged position in which the hammer moves past the impact jaw. The cam lug is separated from the cam lug to define a space in which the reinforcing flange is received.

Swinging weight assembly for impact tool

A tool housing which in one aspect includes a body defining a head portion with a handle portion depending therefrom to define a forward and/or a rear junction. A metal reinforcing member is configured to span along an inside surface of the body from the head portion to the handle portion such that the reinforcing member bridges either the forward or rear junction. In another aspect, the tool assembly comprises a tool housing body, a motor positioned within the tool body housing, a drive mechanism connected with the motor to define a unitary motor/drive mechanism assembly, and at least one elastic isolating member extending about a portion of the motor/drive mechanism assembly such that the motor/drive mechanism assembly is elastically isolated relative to the housing body.

A pneumatic motor having a motor chamber having an inner surface with an eccentric longitudinal axis, a motive gas fluid inlet, and at least one end wall located transversely to the longitudinal axis with an exhaust aperture located therethrough. A rotor is rotatably disposed in the motor chamber on the eccentric longitudinal axis and having a plurality of radial slots, the rotor defining a first rotational position with respect to the longitudinal axis at which the distance between the rotor and the motor chamber is a minimum. A plurality of vanes is slidably carried within the plurality of radial slots and rotationally moving between the fluid inlet and the exhaust aperture during rotation of the rotor. The exhaust aperture is located at a second rotational position with respect to the longitudinal axis such that during rotation of the rotor, the angular distance traveled by each of the plurality of vanes between the first rotational position and the second rotational position in a first rotational direction is greater than 180 degrees.

Pneumatic motor improvements and pneumatic tools incorporating same

A rotary impact tool having a twin hammer mechanism that generally includes a housing having a hollow cage or carrier member positioned therein. A pair of hollow hammer members are pivotally positioned relative to the hollow cage or carrier member so the hollow hammer members rotate with the hollow cage or carrier member under drive from an air motor output shaft. An anvil is positioned inside the hollow hammer members and the anvil rotates relative to the hollow hammer members. The anvil preferably includes a forward anvil lug, a rearward anvil lug and an annular ring positioned intermediate the forward anvil lug, and the rearward anvil lug. To facilitate assembly of the anvil through the hollow hammer members, the annular ring could be a reduced diameter annular ring or the sides of a full diameter annular ring could be reduced or narrowed. Positive spacing of the hollow hammer members can be achieved by placing a spacer between the hollow hammer members. Alternatively, positive spacing of the hollow hammer members can be achieved by extending the hollow hammer members over the annular ring on the anvil with a step provided on the hollow hammer members to provide clearance for the annular ring on the anvil.
