A bicycle tow device that attaches to a bicycle to allow the bicycle to tow one or more other bicycles or carry one or more bicycle tires. In some versions the tow device can be installed on the towing bicycle without tools and a towed bicycle can be attached to the tow device without tools. One version of the tow device includes an adjustable support to adjust the tow device so that bicycles of varying frame and tire sizes may be towed. The tow device may also include a skirt within a guide to gently secure the towed bicycle to the tow device.

A process for preparing a cohesive, retort-stable, shaped food piece. The process comprises: (a) preparing a premixture comprising, by weight, (1) from about 15% to about 65% by weight protein, (2) from about 15% to about 65% by weight starch, (3) from 0% to about 9% by weight fat, (4) from 0% to about 0.7% by weight added sulfur, and (5) from 0% to about 2% by weight dicalcium phosphate; (b) combining the premixture with water to form a secondary mixture, wherein the ratio of premixture to water is in the range of from about 1.6:1 to about 4:1; (c) mixing the secondary mixture for a period of time sufficient to obtain a substantially uniformly mixed dough and under conditions such that the temperature of the secondary mixture and uniformly mixed dough in the mixing operation are maintained in the range of from about 15.degree. C. to about 45.degree. C.; and (d) extruding the uniformly mixed dough into a desired shaped piece. The extrusion is carried out in conjunction with low specific mechanical energy and high pressure conditions, and under conditions such that the temperature of the uniformly mixed dough in the extrusion operation is in the range of from about 40.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C. The present invention further relates to a piece prepared by the above-described process.

Process for preparing retort-stable, extruded, shaped food pieces

A process for preparing a cohesive, retort-stable, shaped food piece. The process comprises: (a) preparing a premixture comprising, by weight, (1) from about 20% to about 80% by weight gluten, (2) from about 20% to about 80% by weight flour, (3) from 0% to about 50% by weight meat and bone meal, (4) from 0% to about 9% by weight fat, (5) from 0% to about 0.7% by weight added sulfur, and (6) from 0% to about 2% by weight dicalcium phosphate; (b) combining the premixture with water to form a secondary mixture, wherein the ratio of premixture to water is in the range of from about 1.6:1 to about 4:1; (c) mixing the secondary mixture for a period of time sufficient to obtain a substantially uniformly mixed dough and under conditions such that the temperature of the secondary mixture and uniformly mixed dough in the mixing operation are maintained in the range of from about 15.degree. C. to about 45.degree. C.; and (d) forming the uniformly mixed dough into a desired shaped piece. The forming operation is carried out in conjunction with low specific mechanical energy and high pressure conditions, and under conditions such that the temperature of the uniformly mixed dough in the forming operation is in the range of from about 40.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C. The present invention further relates to a piece prepared by the above-described process.

Process for preparing retort-stable, shaped food pieces

Methods for measuring the diameters of transparent filaments with high precision, e.g., RMS standard deviations of less than 0.02 microns, are provided. The methods involve determining the average spatial frequency .omega. of the far-field interference pattern produced by illuminating the filament with a beam of laser light. The average spatial frequency is determined by performing a fast Fourier transform (FFT) on the interference data to obtain a coarse estimate for the average and then performing a set of discrete sequence Fourier transforms (DSFTs) in the region of the coarse estimate to obtain the desired high precision estimate of the average. Efficient on-line processing procedures are provided so that real time measurements can be performed on, for example, a moving optical waveguide fiber, at rates of 500 measurements/second and above.

The apparatus can monitor predetermined characteristics of the crimper. The apparatus can sense free travel movement of an indentor and determine appropriate work travel movement of the indentor relative to sensed free travel movement. The apparatus can sense free travel movement of an indentor and compare sensed free travel movement to a stored memory of potential free travel movements and connector sizes. The apparatus can have a computer controller for, at least partially controlling a hydraulic drive system. The apparatus can have a diagnostic monitor for use in evaluating both past and present operation of the system. An apparatus is disclosed for determining indentor work travel movement of crimping apparatus and a method of controlling a system for hydraulically crimping electrical connectors is also disclosed.

A crimping system for crimping electrical connectors to cables. System and method for crimping articles

An apparatus for crimping electrical connectors to cables. The apparatus generally has a ram, an anvil, an electrical ram position sensor, and a computer for at least partially controlling movement of the ram relative to the anvil. The computer can use the position sensor for monitoring the position or location of the ram. The apparatus can have a hydraulic system for moving the ram relative to the anvil and a hydraulic system deactivation valve with a plunger, an extension, means for biasing, and a computer controlled limiter for limiting movement of the plunger and/or extension. The apparatus can also have a pressure sensor for sensing pressure in the hydraulic drive system including two electrical switches and two plungers suitably connected to the hydraulic drive system and adapted to be moveable by hydraulic system pressure at different hydraulic system pressures such that the different hydraulic system pressures can be communicated to the computer by the plungers activating the electrical switches. In a preferred embodiment the apparatus is provided as a hand-held and hand operated crimper with a ram position sensor, a hydraulic drive system, an electrical hydraulic system pressure sensor, a hydraulic system deactivation valve, and a computer connected to the sensors and the valve for at least partially controlling operation of the crimper.
