A method of treatment of skin tissue with two laser devices of unequal wavelengths comprising the steps of: (1) activating the two laser devices simultaneously to produce two laser beams of unequal wavelength; (2) directing the two laser beams into a handpiece having a distal tip to direct the laser beams onto the skin tissue; (3) directing the two laser beams within the handpiece to an adjustable beam deflector; and, (4) the adjustable beam deflector directing the two laser beams onto the skin tissue to produce a pattern of laser spots simultaneously but separated from one another.

Cosmetic method and apparatus for the treatment of skin tissue using two wavelengths of laser energy

A hand-held device for providing a dermatological treatment by scanning laser beams to form a pattern of treatment spots on the skin includes a laser source configured to generate an input laser beam, an automated scanning system, and a treatment spot control system. The automated scanning system includes a rotating multi-sector scanning element configured to repeatedly scan the input laser beam, each scan of the input laser beam providing an array of output laser beams corresponding to the multiple sectors of the scanning element and forming a scanned row of treatment spots on the skin. The rotating multi-sector scanning element is configured such that the each sector provides a constant-angular-direction output laser beam as that sector rotates through the input laser beam. The treatment spots of each scanned row are spaced apart from each other by areas of non-irradiated skin. The treatment spot control system is programmed to provide a defined minimum distance between adjacent rows of treatment spots in a direction of manual movement of the device.

Devices and methods for radiation-based dermatological treatments

A laser package for use in a dermatological treatment device may include a conductive carrier, an insulation layer arranged over a first region of a first side of the conductive carrier, a semiconductor laser device mounted to a second region of the first side of the conductive carrier, and a conductive film secured to the semiconductor laser device and extending over at least a portion of the insulation layer, such that the conductive film is insulated from the conductive carrier by the insulation layer, and wherein a coefficient of thermal expansion of the semiconductor laser device differs from a coefficient of the conductive carrier to which it is mounted by more than 20%.

Laser diode package

A phototherapy device includes an outlet end to be placed in contact with a person's skin, a heat exchanger, an optical structure arranged between the heat exchanger and the outlet end, and a light source arranged between the heat exchanger and the outlet end, and configured to emit light for delivery to the skin through or adjacent the optical structure. The heat exchanger may include a first heat transfer portion thermally coupled to the light source for dissipating heat from the light source, and a second heat transfer portion thermally coupled to the optical structure for dissipating heat from the optical structure. The first and second heat transfer portions of the heat exchanger may be substantially thermally isolated from each other, e.g., partially or completely physically separated from each other.

Phototherapy device thermal control apparatus and method

A dermatological treatment device includes a handheld device body, and a laser control circuit housed in the device body and configured to generate laser radiation for delivery to a target area of tissue. The laser control circuit includes a multiple-emitter laser diode and a battery source. The multiple-emitter laser diode includes a monolithic stack of layers formed on a substrate, the monolithic stack of layers including a multiple-emitter region defining at least two emitter junctions, each emitter junction configured to emit a laser beam. The battery source provides current to the laser diode such that each of the at least two emitter junctions concurrently emits a laser beam, the at least two concurrently emitted laser beams forming a collective beam. The device delivers the collective beam to the target area of tissue to provide a dermatological treatment.

Dermatological treatment device with one or more multi-emitter laser diode

A device for providing radiation-based dermatological treatments includes a device body configured to be handheld by a user; a VCSEL laser supported in the device body, the VCSEL laser including multiple spaced-apart VCSEL beam sources configured to generate multiple discrete laser beams for generating multiple discrete treatment spots on the skin; an application end configured to be manually moved across the surface of the skin during a treatment session; and electronics configured to control the multiple VCSEL beam sources to emit the multiple discrete laser beams toward the skin to provide a dermatological treatment.

Radiation-based dermatological devices and methods

A device for providing laser-based dermatological treatments may include a device body having an application end, a VCSEL laser supported in the device body and including multiple emitter zones, each emitter zone comprising one or more micro-emitters, each micro-emitter configured to emit a micro-beam, wherein at least two of the multiple emitter zones are configured such that the micro-beam emitted by the micro-emitters of the at least two emitter zones form a combined beam through the application end of the device to provide a treatment spot on the skin, and electronics coupled to the at least two emitter zones and configured to control the at least two emitter zones independently.

Dermatological treatment device with one or more vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL)

A device for treating an area of skin by scanning radiation to form a pattern of treatment spots on the skin includes an automated scanning system configured to receive an input beam generated by a radiation source and scan the received input beam to provide a sequential series of output beams that form a pattern of treatment spots on the skin, the automated scanning system including a generally cup-shaped scanning element configured to rotate about a rotational axis. The generally cup-shaped scanning element may include a plurality of lenslets arranged around the rotational axis, each lenslet configured to provide one of the output beams, such that as the rotating scanning element rotates about the rotational axis, the input beam is sequentially reflected by different lenslets surfaces to provide the sequential series of output beams.

A self-contained, hand-held device for providing a dermatological treatment includes a radiation source configured to generate one or more radiation beams, and an optical system configured to deliver the one or more radiation beams to the skin to provide a dermatological treatment. Each radiation beam includes a first axis beam profile and an orthogonal second axis beam profile. The optical system includes a first axis optic configured to influence the first axis beam profile of each radiation beam by a greater extent than the second axis beam profile of each radiation beam, and a second axis optic configured to influence the second axis beam profile of each radiation beam by a greater extent than the first axis beam profile of each radiation beam.

A phototherapy device includes a light source; a light emanation block; and a heat exchanger for the dissipation of heat from one or more heat loads associated with the device. Heat may be transferred via the heat exchanger from the light source independently of the dissipation of heat from one or more of the other device heat loads. Substantially thermally isolated heat transfer regions may be provided, and such regions may be maintained at different operating temperatures, to control the transfer of heat in conjunction with a phototherapy method and to promote efficient and enhanced device operation and performance.
