The present invention is a method for exploiting a sedimentary basin using an updated stratigraphic model based on updating a stratigraphic model according to measurements performed in a basin. The method comprises steps of i) determining at least a first spatial distribution of the values of an attribute representative of the basin stratigraphy, and applying a classification method for converting this first spatial distribution to a first classified image; ii) performing a stratigraphic simulation with first parameter values of the simulation, deducing therefrom a second spatial distribution of the values of the attribute and applying the same classification method identically to determine a second classified image; iii) determining a distribution of local dissimilarities between the first and second classified images, and modifying the values of at least one of the stratigraphic simulation parameters to minimize an objective function formed from at least the local dissimilarity distribution; and iv) updating the stratigraphic model by performing at least one stratigraphic simulation with the modified simulation parameter values.

Method for updating a stratigraphic model of a sedimentary basin based on measurements

A method for exploiting underground porous media via injection or production of a fluid is disclosed, wherein repetitive seismic records are interpreted taking into consideration the seismic frequency band in the evaluation of pore pressures. After inversion of 4D seismic data, at least two sets of seismic speeds are available which correspond to different moments in time. A Hertz-type power-law is then used to evaluate pore pressures, wherein the Hertz coefficient is determined using laboratory ultrasound or sonic measures. Then the coefficients are adjusted using a measurement of the attenuation of the ultrasound or sonic waves. Fluid flow is then monitored within the porous media by determining whether variation in seismic speed is due to the variation of pore pressure or to fluid substitution, using the adjusted Hertz equation.

Method for interpreting repetitive seismic data considering seismic frequency band in the evaluation of pore pressures

A method of monitoring a COgeological storage site by locating the COplume from 4D seismic data is disclosed. A stratigraphic inversion of the seismic data is performed in order to obtain the P and S impedances, before and after COinjection. A density variation cube and an incompressibility modulus variation cube are constructed from the seismic impedances. The free COplume is located within the subsoil by identifying, within the cubes cells where the density variation is negative and where the incompressibility modulus variation is negative, which are of an absolute value greater than a given positive threshold.

Method for evaluating fluid pressures in an underground zone by means of seismic and well data. The zone studied is divided into several time analysis intervals. For each of these intervals, a pre-stack stratigraphic inversion of the seismic data is then carried out using geological a priori information, and a lithoseismic facies cube is determined by lithoseismic analysis. Then, for each facies, relations connecting the seismic impedances of wells to differential pressures in wells are determined in each analysis interval. Finally, a differential pressure cube is determined using the previous relations, as well as a confining pressure cube, in order to determine the fluid pressures in the subsoil by simple difference between these two cubes. Application: petroleum sphere for the detection of overpressure zones during drilling for example.
