The present invention is related to a new method for the synthesis of alpha-aminoalkylenephosphonic acid or its phosphonate esters comprising the steps of forming a reaction mixture by mixing a P&#x2014;O&#x2014;P anhydride moiety comprising compound, having one P-atom at the oxidation state (+III) and the other P-atom at the oxidation state (+III) or (+V), an aminoalkanecarboxylic acid and an acid catalyst, wherein said reaction mixture comprises an equivalent ratio of alpha-aminoalkylene carboxylic acid to P&#x2014;O&#x2014;P anhydride moieties of at least 0.2, and recovering the resulting alpha-aminoalkylene phosphonic acid compound or an ester thereof from the reaction mixture.

Method for the synthesis of N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine

A method for securing the use of an aqueous medium under any substantial exclusion of metal ion interference is disclosed. A phosphonic acid compound containing: a selected phosphonate moiety and a moiety selected from a limited number of species; or hydrocarbon chains containing aminoalkylene phosphonic acid substituents; or alkylamino alkylene phosphonic acids containing an active moiety embodying N, O, and S. Surface treatment compositions containing selected phosphonic acid compounds are disclosed. The compositions contain major levels of surface-active agents in combination with additive levels of the phosphonic acid compounds, and, in accordance with needs and objectives, conventional optional ingredients and additive agents. The inventive compositions can provide significant performance benefits, among others novel synergies and eminently desirable regulatory and environmental acceptability.

A beneficial method for the manufacture of amino polyalkylene phosphonic acids, under substantial absence of hydrohalogenic acid, is disclosed. The method, in essence, is based on reacting narrowly defined ratios of phosphorous acid, an amine, a formaldehyde in presence of specific ranges of an acid catalyst having a pKa equal or inferior to 3.1. The inventive method is capable of yielding economically and quality operational/capacity advantages, in particular significantly reduced one-step cycle duration under exclusion, of corrosion disadvantages and also is environmentally friendly without requiring, in that respect, anything more than nominal capital expenditures.

Process for the manufacture of aminoalkylenephosphonic acid compounds in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst

A method for purification of an oxygen contaminated nitrous oxide gas by feeding the nitrous oxide gas and a reducing agent such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide or ammonia into a de-oxidation reactor, performing de-oxidation by reacting the reducing agent with oxygen using a catalyst such as palladium or platinum in order to deplete the oxygen in the nitrous oxide gas, while limiting the amount of nitrous oxide removed from the nitrous oxide gas.

A catalytic process is described for the selective alkylation of a polycyclic aromatic compound comprising reacting the polycyclic aromatic compound with an alkylating agent in the presence of a catalyst to thereby yield the desired alkyl substituted polycyclic aromatic compound with improved selectivity and improved yield. The process is particularly suitable for the selective dialkylation of polycyclic aromatic compounds in the para-, respectively beta-positions. The catalyst is a protonic form of a mordenite having an atomic Si/Al ratio of at least 5:1, comprising additional metal species in a molar ratio metal (in the metal species)/aluminium of at least 0.10 and having a biphenyl sorption of at least 0.05 g biphenyl per g of catalyst.

Catalytic process for the selective alkylation of polycyclic aromatic

A catalytic process for the selective alkylation of mono- and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons is described. The aromatic hydrocarbon is reacted with an alkylating agent in the presence of an acid form of a dealuminated small pore mordenite catalyst having an atomic ratio Si/Al of at least 10:1 to thereby yield the desired alkyl substituted derivative with improved selectivity and improved yield.
