A disposable patch pump may be provided with a filling adapter, to ensure filling by an authorized user. The adapter mates with the pump and a source of medicament, such as an insulin vial, to prevent filling the pump directly with a conventional syringe. The adapter and/or pump filling port may be configured with a frangible element, to limit the system to single use.

A pressure support system that comprises a patient circuit, a docking assembly, and a tank. The patient circuit delivers a pressurized flow of breathable gas to a patient. The docking assembly has an inlet and an outlet that is adapted to receive the pressurized flow of breathable gas, and is also adapted to be connected with the patient circuit. The tank is constructed and arranged to be removably connected with the docking assembly, and enables the pressurized flow of breathable gas to pass therethrough. The tank is also adapted to contain a liquid such that a humidity level of the pressurized flow of breathable gas is elevated as the pressurized flow of breathable gas passes therethrough.

Modular pressure support system and method

This invention provides new above knee (AK) and below the knee (BK) orthotic devices and implements specific manufacturing processes for the production of orthotic devices through the automated, computer controlled bi-axial and tri-axial braiding of orthotic devices, over a mold or mandrel made of carved foam, plaster material or wax that is a replica of the patient's limb, and is created by a Computer Aided Design (CAD) file controlling a Numerically Controlled (CNC) machine tool. This method of manufacture using aerospace fibers such as graphite or Kevlar, and high performance resins, is used to create a orthotic device which is stronger and lighter weight than conventionally manufactured orthotic devices. Braiding also allows incorporation of woven cloth, tapes and other reinforcements into the braiding process for added strength at selected areas. The method dramatically decreases the production time and cost of the relative to conventional methods.

The present invention relates to standardizing the manufacture above-the-knee (AK) and below-the-knee (BK) prosthetic sockets and attached hardware using specially designs alignment jigs that can record position of components, with micro-encoders embedded in the jig, to quantify various degrees of freedom (rotations and translations) during integration of a temporary check socket or prosthesis. These records, together with a digital record of the shape of the truncated limb, in the form of a CAD file, can provide a complete digital record or 'prescription' of the prosthesis. The digital record is then transferable to a central fabrication facility which uses a jig augmented with motors, drives systems, and encoders to robotically position and align fixtures and clamps to streamline integration and production of the prosthesis in a standardized manner.

A manually actuated pump, such as a bolus delivery circuit of an insulin pump, combines a direct drive piston system with a lost motion valve system, to deliver reliably a full bolus dose, while precluding partial dosing or inadvertent overdosing conditions. The pump may also include a signaling device to indicate when a full bolus dose is delivered.

An extendable beam has compact slideable segments with angular extensions connected by cables which are tensioned to strengthen the beam when the beam is extended by sliding the segments. Restraining parts slide along tracks on neighboring segments. Short fixed length cables are connected between tips of extensions and diagonally between extension tips and segments are tensioned when hinged extensions are deployed. Other cables are paid out and tensioned, connecting tips of extensions on adjacent segments. Internal pulleys and beam extension cables simultaneously slide adjacent segments to extend the beam. An external crane and lock extend the beam serially.

Extendable beam structure (EBS)

Launching payloads at high velocity uses high-pressure gas or combustion products for propulsion, with injection of high pressure gas at intervals along the path behind the payload projectile as it accelerates along the barrel of the launcher. An inner barrel has an interior diameter equal to the projectile diameter or sabot containing the projectile. An outer casing surrounds the inner barrel. Structures at intervals attach the outer casing and the inner barrel. An axial gas containment chamber (AGC) stores high pressure gas between the inner barrel wall, the outer casing wall, and enclosure bulkheads. Pressure-activated valves along the barrel sequentially release the high pressure gas contained in the AGC in to the barrel to create a continuously refreshed high energy pressure heads behind the projectile as it moves down the barrel. A frangible cover at the exit end of the barrel allows the barrel to be evacuated prior to launch. The launcher is rapidly recyclable. The valves close automatically after the projectile has exited the barrel, allowing a new projectile to be introduced into the breech and the AGC to be recharged with high-pressure gas.

Solar generators have Fresnel lenses and spaced heat absorbers or photovoltaic cells for receiving focused solar rays. Heat is removed from their backs by boiling liquid in conical receivers. Pins or fins extend rearward into the receivers from the heat absorbers or photovoltaic cells. Liquid supply to the receivers is controlled by valves and floats or sensors. Tubes remove steam or vapor from the receivers for driving generators or for cooling photovoltaic cells. Hinged tubes which form the foldable support conduct the steam to generators and condense the vapor. Liquid is returned to a holding tank, is pumped to a distribution tank and is conducted by some of the structural tubes back to the valved receivers.

A conformable battery wherein the outer casing has an upper face plate, a lower face plate, and at least one perimetric wall, and an interior of the battery comprising a grid of walls extending from the upper face plate to the lower face plate and connecting to the at least one perimetric wall, thereby dividing the interior of the battery into at least two compartments and increasing the battery's structural stiffness and ability to sustain increased internal pressure. Each compartment contains an electrochemically active plate stack, and a network of electrical conductors provides electrical connection between the plate stacks in each of the compartment. The battery may further comprise a reservoir containing an acid additive which, when released into each of the compartments, shifts the battery from a low power mode into a high power mode.

Conformable battery

A carpet cleaning machine for uniformly spreading a dry carpet cleaning powder onto a surface and working the dry carpet cleaning powder into the surface. The cleaning machine includes base having a hopper integrally formed therein, distribution slots on the bottom of the hopper, a rotary powder agitator inside the hopper, wheels for supporting the base over a floor surface and for rotating the powder agitator, a metering gate for controlling the dispensing of the dry carpet cleaning powder, a trigger located on the cleaner handle for controlling the metering gate, and a plurality of motor driven vertical axis rotary brushes for working the dry carpet cleaning powder into the carpet. The dry carpet cleaning powder is dispensed onto the carpet and allowed to sit for a short period of time to allow the dry carpet cleaning powder to absorb the dirt contained in the carpet. After the dry carpet cleaning powder has dried and absorbed dirt, the dry carpet cleaning powder and dirt are vacuumed from the carpet with an ordinary vacuum.

A winged hybrid airship (dynastat) combining the advantages of lighter-than-air (LTA) and heavier-than-air (HTA) aircrafts is disclosed. By combining the dynamic lift of low drag, high aspect ration airfoils (e.g., length over chord >10) with the static lift of low drag, laminar-airflow airships, a platform is formed which is capable of prolonged high altitude flight, maintaining station over a given point on the earth, carrying a payload of communications, reconnaissance or meteorological equipment. Solar collection cells and microwave antennas allow for recharging of on board batteries/fuel cells for powering both the airship and on board avionics computers and reconnaissance or meteorological equipment. An alternate embodiment, having strengthened structural members, is able to provide low altitude heavy cargo lift in remote regions regions or cross country transport of goods.
