Siding panel

An insulated panel assembly having improved insulative R-value. The insulated panel assembly comprises a cover panel, a first insulation layer, and at least one additional insulation layer, wherein the at least one additional insulation layer has a higher R-value than the first insulation layer. The first insulation layer is secured to the cover panel. The first insulation layer further forms at least one recessed portion. The at least one additional insulation layer is positioned in the at least one recessed portion of the first insulation layer. Examples of the at least one additional insulation layer may include vacuum insulated panels and modified atmosphere insulation panels.

Assembly for improved insulation

A siding panel having a staple hem with at least one slotted hole or other aperture configured to accommodate a free-floating staple. An added thickness portion extends from and overlaps a portion of the staple hem and is configured to limit the depth the staple may penetrate into the aperture. A tongue extends from and below the staple hem and is configured to accommodate a corresponding groove. At least one exterior panel or other configuration extends below and from the tongue. In an exemplary embodiment, a groove configured to mate with a corresponding tongue extends from the last exterior panel.

Siding having a staple hem

A backed paneling unit comprised of a backing portion that includes at least an elevated portion. A depth portion may also be included. An elevated portion and/or a depth portion may be formed using any suitable method including, but not limited to, molding, machining and heat stamping. Optionally, a backing portion may comprise a hydrophobic material. Such features may enable fluid flow (e.g., ventilation or liquid drainage) behind the backing portion. Additionally, the elevated portion of the backing portion may eliminate the need for the use of furring strips when installing, for example, siding.
