A computer-implemented method for building a software application is disclosed. The method includes: generating a plurality of application resources; creating a plurality of tags; applying one of the tags on each of the plurality of application resources; grouping the application resources by their tags to form at least two asset packs, each identifiable by at least one tag shared by all application resources in the asset pack; and creating an asset pack manifest comprising a location of each of the asset packs and an order in which the asset packs are to be downloaded.

Embodiments described herein provide for system and methods to enable an operating environment that supports multi-OS applications. One embodiment provides for a non-transitory machine-readable medium storing instructions to perform operations comprising parsing a set of object files to generate a graph of code and data for each object file, group elements from the graphs of code and data into a master graph of elements, and generating an annotated output file including compiled code for the dynamic library, the annotated output file having a header and a first set of load commands, the first set of load commands to specify multiple target platforms for the dynamic library.

Annotating dynamic libraries for multi-OS applications

A method is provided that receives an image that includes graphical metadata for specifying alignment information. The method renders the image by using the alignment information. Rendering the image by using the alignment information includes positioning text on the image, aligning the image with another image, and identifying visual boundaries of the rendered image. The graphical metadata includes a geometric shape that specifies a region on the image where the text is to be rendered. The alignment metadata also specifies a maximum size for text rendered on the image. In some embodiments, the image is a multi-layer image that includes a first layer for the image and a second layer for the graphical metadata. In some embodiments, the layer that includes the graphical metadata is designated to include graphical metadata. The graphical metadata is not rendered on a graphical user interface where the image is rendered.

Method and apparatus for designing layout for user interfaces

A method of emulating an input device. The method receives a set of data associated with a touch input. The set of data includes a set of coordinates of each data point, the force applied at each data point, and the time the data for each data point is received. The method adds several data points to the first set of data points to create a second set of data points. For each data point in the second set of data points, the method calculates a set of parameters based on the set of data associated with the data point. The method provides a subset of the calculated parameters and the data associated with a subset of the second set of data to an application to emulate the input device.

Unified drawing framework

Described is a system that processes texture assets for an application to be distributed across a range of devices while still leveraging device-specific hardware capabilities. In one embodiment, the system processes various criteria and determines specialized texture asset variants for a set of devices. These criteria may include various selected options including an interpretation selection for interpreting a source image for a texture, and device trait options such as device type, memory, and software support. In addition, the system may create mipmaps based on attributes of a set of target devices. Accordingly, a set of specialized texture assets may be created and distributed across a suite of devices.

Providing variants of texture assets for an asset catalog

Systems and methods are disclosed for authoring, deploying, and executing layer stack images for applications directed to a plurality of target devices. Resources to implement the layer stack images are compiled into an asset catalog database for each image in each layer stack image for each target device. Derivative resource products, such as a flattened version of the layer stack images and a 'blurred' version of layer stack images can be generated and stored in the asset catalog at compile and build time. Three-dimensional effects implemented using the layer stack images can be implemented using an application programming interface that accepts legacy two dimensional images can be used to receive the layer stack images. An platform framework implements logic that detects the type of image requested via the API is a layer stack image or a conventional flat image. Third party layer stack images can be received and displayed at run-time or compile time. Images that make up a layer stack image can be locally-stored, externally referenced, or both. A layer stack image can, itself, refer to other layer stack images.

Asset catalog layered image support

An electronic device may have a main display and an ancillary display. The device may also have a backlit keyboard with glyphs. An ambient light sensor may measure ambient light levels. Control circuitry in the laptop computer may adjust the color cast of content on the ancillary display depending on whether the content contains glyphs or other input display content or whether the content contains images, color gradients, or other output display content. Input display content may be matched in color cast to the color cast of the glyphs, which may be determined based on backlight status and/or measured ambient light information. Output content may be color matched to the main display.

Described is a system for providing variants of a digital asset based on specific device capabilities of target devices. A developer may compress a digital asset that is part of a universal application to be installed on a set of target devices by selecting from a set of intent-based compression options. The compression options may include hardware-accelerated compression formats that utilize a graphics processing unit (GPU) during rendering. Despite the compression option selected, the application package includes a variant of the digital asset renderable on each type of target device including devices without a GPU. This allows a developer to freely choose any option without the concern of whether the option is compatible or supported by each type of device. A distribution server may then map attributes of a specific target to particular feature classes, and accordingly, distribute an appropriate variant of the digital asset to the target device.

Providing variants of digital assets based on device-specific capabilities

A method of defining a dynamically adjustable user interface ('UI') of a device is described. The method defines multiple UI elements for the UI, where each UI element includes multiple pixels. The method defines a display adjustment tool for receiving a single display adjustment parameter and in response adjusting the appearance of the UI by differentiating display adjustments to a first set of saturated pixels from the display adjustments to a second set of non-saturated pixels.

User interface contrast filter

A method and an apparatus for an application thinning mechanism are described. The thinning mechanism can select a subset of components from a universal application to assemble an application variant to be distributed and installed to a specific type of devices. The universal application may include every component, such as asset, resource or executable, built/developed for targeted device attributes to install one common application to multiple devices. For example, the thinning mechanism can use a trait vector associated with a type of devices to iterate through the components and identify assets to be included or packaged into in each target device specific application or application variant.

Capability attributes based application packaging

A method for changing a value displayed on a screen is provided. In response to receiving a user input indicating motion in a particular direction, changing the value independent of where the position of a cursor is on the screen. The value being changed may comprise of a series of segments, and each segment value can be changed individually. In addition, a different user input device that does not indicate motion in a particular direction may be used to change segment values and to select other segment values. Methods for automatically formatting a segmented values and calculating a base time rate based on two different frame rates are also provided.
