An assembly can include a valve seat for an exhaust bypass valve of a serial turbocharger system where the valve seat includes a base portion and a wall portion that extends axially away from the base portion; and a gasket that includes a planar portion that defines a perimeter and a socket disposed interior to the perimeter, where the socket includes a valve seat surface axially recessed from the planar portion and configured to position the seat. In various examples, the valve seat is positioned in the socket of the gasket and fixed to the gasket. Various other examples of devices, assemblies, systems, methods, etc., are also disclosed.

A turbocharger for internal combustion engines, having a heat shield disposed between a turbine housing and center housing of the turbocharger for shielding the center housing from exhaust gases passing through the turbine. The heat shield in one embodiment is centered on a generally conical surface of the center housing, by engagement between the conical surface and a centering portion of the heat shield. In another embodiment, the heat shield has a generally conical portion that is non-axisymmetric, having a plurality of radially enlarged lobes that engage a radially inwardly facing surface of the turbine housing for centering the heat shield.

A turbine housing assembly includes a tubular piston disposed in a bore of a turbine housing and axially slidable between a closed position and an open position for blocking a nozzle by an amount dependent on axial positioning of the piston. A bypass control member is disposed in the turbine housing and is slidable between a no-bypass position closing a bypass passage and a open bypass opening the bypass passage. The piston is structured and arranged to slide relative to the bypass control member for a part of a full stroke of the piston from the closed position toward the open position thereof, and then to engage the bypass control member and cause the bypass control member to slide together with the piston as the piston further slides toward the open position thereof such that the bypass control member is moved toward the bypass position.
