Systems and methods for measuring corrosion rate of an equipment material are provided. A system may comprise a corrosion probe body for insertion within an interior of the equipment through which corrodant fluid flows. At least one sensor on the corrosion probe body includes an ultrasonic source configured to provide an ultrasonic signal into the probe body material, and a receiver configured to receive reflections of the ultrasonic signal from the probe body material and generate electrical response signals indicative of the travel time of the ultrasonic signal. A heat exchanger may be placed in fluid communication with the probe body to deliver heated or cooled fluids to the probe body. A processor is configured to process the electrical response signals and produce corresponding corrosion data.

Methods and systems for measuring corrosion in-situ

Disclosed is an extruded plastic suitable for expansion to a foam packing peanut and a process for making the pellet and the peanut. The peanut comprises a discrete plastic body having a core portion extending continuously along the longitudinal extension of the body and an outer portion extending from and continuously along the core portion along the longitudinal extension. The body further has a blowing agent incorporated therein. In a preferred embodiment, the pellet takes on a generally helical shape. Also disclosed is a foam packing peanut formed by expansion of the pellet described above. Further disclosed is a package useful in transporting, storing, or cushioning an article or articles comprising a receptacle containing the article and a plurality of the foam peanut described above. The peanuts are capable of providing a packing factor of 3.0 or greater.

A process and apparatus for severing and simultaneously sealing a plurality of plies of thermoplastic material to form bags for storing foods therein is provided. A severing and sealing element fabricated from a long range ordered alloy is used. The use of that alloy provides increased element life at higher operating temperatures while significantly reducing odor and off-flavor problems in the bags.

The invention is a device and method for cooling a high temperature furnace. A typical high temperature furnace will include a hot zone that is insulated with carbon-based materials, such as lamp-black. The cooling device is a probe consisting of two elongate tubular members. The smaller diameter member fits lengthwise inside the larger member, such that an annulus is defined within the probe. A tapered metal tip at the lower end of the probe is positioned above a frangible disk, and the disk fits over a guide tube that extends into the insulation section. In operation, the probe is shoved downwardly through the frangible disk into the guide tube, to position the tip near the hot zone of the furnace. An inert gas is then passed through the inside member of the probe, and exhausted through the annulus, to dissipate the furnace heat.
