A system for use in wirelessly monitoring a pipeline such as a natural gas pipe. The system includes a locator configured to wirelessly transmit power and a subsoil sensor marker located adjacent the pipe and configured to wirelessly communicate with the locator. The sensor marker includes a microcontroller, a memory module, a sensor configured to sense the presence of a gas, and a power module. The power module is configured to harvest a sufficient amount of the power wirelessly transmitted from the locator in order to operate the microcontroller to take a measurement via the sensor, save the measurement in the memory module, and wirelessly transmit the measurement to the locator.

Wireless power transfer and sensing for monitoring pipelines

A display system includes a switchable display screen comprising a first transparent substrate, a first transparent conductive layer disposed upon the first transparent substrate, a second transparent substrate, and a second transparent conductive layer disposed upon the second transparent substrate. The display screen further includes a polymer-stabilized cholesteric texture layer and spacer elements disposed between and in contact with the first transparent conductive layer and the second conductive layer. The display screen comprises a plurality of addressable regions, each region capable of being switched from a transparent state to a diffuse state.

The transparent display has pixels capable of switching between a clear state to make portions of the display transparent and a hazy state to display the projected video. A decoder receives and decodes audio content associated with the video content in order to control the switching of the pixels in the display such that the video content is projected onto pixels in the hazy state.

The inactive region of a tiled display is thereby minimized by making the electrical connections to display drivers on the major surface opposite the viewing area.

A unipolar gray scale drive scheme for passive matrix displays, more specifically, cholesteric liquid crystal displays, capable of creating any number of desired levels of gray scale. The drive scheme is single stage and can use either an amplitude modulation or a pulse width modulation column voltage signal in combination with a selecting row voltage signal to drive a pixel receiving the two intersecting signals to a desired level of gray scale.

Unipolar gray scale drive scheme for cholesteric liquid crystal displays

A gray scale drive scheme for passive matrix displays, more specifically cholesteric liquid crystal displays. Prior to writing an image, the display can be given a black appearance by first driving the pixels to a homeotropic state, then driving the pixels to a focal conic state. The drive scheme then resets pixels by driving the selected pixels to a homeotropic state. Selecting and non-selecting row voltage signals are then used in combination with column voltage signals to write an image to the display.
