An hourglass transducer including a longitudinal driver, a shell, and a pair of endcaps is provided. The driver drives the transducer. The pair of endcaps is attached to ends of the driver and cap the shell enclosing the transducer. The shell includes a first shell end, a second shell end, and a pleated geometry. The first shell end and second shell end are structured with circular cross sections. The pleated geometry is between the first shell end and the second shell end. A perimeter of the pleated geometry is the same as perimeters of the circular cross sections of the first shell end and the second shell end.

A slotted cylinder acoustic transducer has a crescent-shaped insert disposed between a ceramic stack assembly and s cylindrical housing shell. In some embodiments, all of the ceramic elements in the ceramic stack assembly can have the same shape.

Slotted cylinder acoustic transducer

A flextensional transducer for use in surface ship applications requiring the capability of withstanding underwater explosive shock is described. The transducer includes a plurality of ceramic stacked drivers disposed between an elliptical outer shell having opposing slots disposed along an inner surface of the shell and a flextensional limiting support block. The drivers are mounted on ball joint sockets which allow pivoting during high acceleration loading conditions. The support block further has a pair of curved surfaces which will generally follow, in close proximity, the inner surface of the shell and a member coupled to the opposing slots of the elliptical shell. The block can be fixed to a rigid mount disposed over at least one end of the transducer using a plurality of tie rods.

Electro-acoustic transducers

A fairing segment for a cable is of composite construction which combines an elastomeric fairing body with a flexible spring-steel clip in the fairing nose. The elastomeric body allows the fairing nose to conform to the cable catenary in the flow stream, presents a smooth leading edge of the flow, and reduces drag. The clip is flexible in the direction of the plane of the fairing to conform to bending of the cable over sheaves or in the water. The spring steel clip allows the fairing to freely rotate about the cable and to align with the flow stream by maintaining low interfacial friction between the cable and the fairing. The clip also minimizes or prevents cold flow of the elastomeric nose portion of the fairing segment into the interstices of the cable armor. The tail portion of the elastomeric body is stiffened to prevent cupping or bending which would cause kiting of the cable.
