Various methods and systems are provided for an electric motor arrangement in a chassis of a battery electric vehicle. In one embodiment, a front chassis for a battery electric vehicle comprises a structural frame including two parallel sidewalls and a first portion of a vehicle articulation joint and an electric motor coupled between and in face-sharing contact with each of the two parallel sidewalls.

Cooling arrangement for a motor of a vehicle

An electric machine that includes a rotor core made of magnetic steel; a stator configured with stationary windings therein; openings disposed within or on the rotor core; and a rotor circuit that is configured to introduce saliency based on an orientation of part of the rotor circuit in relationship to a pole location of the electric machine, where the rotor circuit is made of a conductive, non-magnetic material. A rotor component and various embodiments of electric machines are also disclosed. The present invention has been described in terms of specific embodiment(s), and it is recognized that equivalents, alternatives, and modifications, aside from those expressly stated, are possible and within the scope of the appending claims.

Sensorless electric machine

A rotor component that comprises a rotor circuit configured for use with either an interior permanent magnet (IPM) machine or a synchronous reluctance machine (SRM) that includes a pole circuit made of a conductive, non-magnetic material and has a midpoint that substantially aligns with a d-axis of the IPM or SRM. An electric machine with a similar rotor component therein or having a loop or ring of a conductive, non-magnetic material that is substantially concentric about a d-axis of the electric machine.

An energy storage device that includes a housing, which includes at least one end panel that includes at least one aperture therethrough. The device further includes a battery cell housed in the housing. The battery cell includes mutually opposed first and second faces joined at their edges. The device also includes a heat sink adjacent to the battery cell and in thermal contact with the first face of the battery cell. The heat sink defines at least one cooling medium passage extending parallel to the face of the adjacent battery cell. The cooling medium passage opens onto the at least one aperture formed through the at least one end panel of the housing.

Energy storage device and method

An embodiment of the present invention relates to a vehicle. The vehicle includes an energy storage device and a traction motor electrically connected to the energy storage device. The traction motor is configured to convert electrical energy supplied by the energy storage device into a mechanical output to propel the vehicle. The vehicle also includes a vehicle connecting mechanism electrically coupled to the energy storage device and being configured for electrical coupling with a second vehicle connecting mechanism of a second vehicle to establish an electrical interface between the vehicle and the second vehicle. The electrical interface enables the transfer of electric power between the vehicle and the second vehicle.

System and method for transferring energy between vehicles

An electrical machine includes a rotor comprising a rotor core and a plurality of permanent magnets embedded radially within the rotor core to form a plurality of rotor poles. The electrical machine further includes a stator comprising a stator core disposed concentrically outside the rotor and including a plurality of stator teeth defining a plurality of stator slots there between. An arithmetic sum or difference of twice the number of stator teeth and the number of the stator poles equals the number of rotor poles.

In an embodiment, an apparatus for reducing the mechanical load on the electrical terminals of a capacitor includes a plate having a planar body and one or more deflectable tabs connected to the planar body, one or more capacitors respectively mounted to the plate via the one or more deflectable tabs, and a busbar electrically connected to the one or more capacitors such that the one or more capacitors are arranged intermediate the plate and the busbar. The deflectable tabs are configured to support the capacitors, and to move towards and away from the planar body for accommodating size variances in the capacitors relative to a fixed spacing between the busbar and an enclosure.

Method and apparatus for mechanical load reduction on the electrical terminals of a capacitor

An electrical machine is provided. The electrical machine includes a rotor comprising an inner rotor having a plurality of inner rotor poles and an outer rotor having a plurality of outer rotor poles. The electrical machine further comprises a stator configured to modulate a magnetic flux and to transmit torque to inner rotor and the outer rotor, the stator comprising a stator core interposed concentrically between the inner rotor and the outer rotor; a multiple of stator windings disposed in a plurality of stator slots, the stator windings configured to form a multiple of stator poles. The stator further comprises a plurality of stator teeth interposed between the plurality of stator slots, wherein an arithmetic sum or difference of twice number of stator teeth and a number of the stator poles equals a number of rotor poles.

A system for determining a temperature of a permanent magnet in a machine includes a voltage sensor that generates a voltage signal reflective of a stator voltage and a current sensor that generates a current signal reflective of a stator current. A processor receives the voltage and current signals and generates a temperature signal reflective of the temperature of the permanent magnet in the machine. A method for controlling a load of a machine includes generating a voltage signal, a current signal, and a temperature signal reflective of the temperature of a permanent magnet in the machine. The method further includes adjusting the load of the machine based on the temperature signal.

System and method for determining the temperature of a permanent magnet in a machine

A drivetrain for a wind turbine includes a gearbox and a generator. The gear box includes a housing and an output shaft that is rotatably coupled within the housing, wherein the gearbox further includes at least one bearing positioned between the housing and the output shaft. The generator includes a stator coupled to the housing such that the stator is positioned radially inward from the housing, and a rotor coupled to the output shaft such that the rotor is positioned radially inward from the stator.

Drivetrain system for a wind turbine generator and method of assembling the same

A magnetizer for magnetizing permanent magnets positioned in-situ a mechanical member is disclosed. The magnetizer comprises at least one primary superconducting coil configured to project a magnetic field flux configuration of a first type to at least a portion of a distal volume of a first type, and at least two auxiliary coils symmetrically disposed about the at least one primary superconducting coil and configured to project magnetic field flux configurations of a second type to at least a portion of a distal volume of a second type. A method of magnetizing a permanent magnet in-situ within a mechanical member is also disclosed.

Superconducting magnetizer

A wind turbine is provided having a drivetrain with a gearbox and a gearbox housing, at least one gear stage and an output shaft coupled within the housing. The gear stage exerts an axial thrust force on the output shaft during operation of the wind turbine. A generator includes a generator housing and an input shaft connected to the output shaft of the gearbox. The generator includes a rotor and a stator coupled to the generator housing. The rotor is coupled to the input shaft such that the rotor is positioned radially inward from the stator. At least one bearing is shared between the gearbox output shaft and the generator input shaft, and this bearing carries a portion of the axial thrust force. The generator is skewed to exert an opposing axial thrust force on the input shaft, so that the axial thrust force carried by the bearing is reduced.
