Provided is a tissue staining composition containing carbon particles having a mean particle diameter less than 0.3 μm in diameter (optionally less than 0.2 μm in diameter) together with one or more agents that maintain the carbon particles in suspension (for example, an anti-settling agent and/or surfactant). In certain circumstances, the anti-settling agent may also have mucoadhesive properties. The tissue staining composition is visually dark and does not disperse rapidly when introduced into regions of tissue of interest making it ideal for marking the regions that can be visualized clearly and over prolonged periods of time via, for example, direct visualization, endoscopic or laparoscopic inspection. The invention also provides methods of making and using the tissue staining composition for marking regions of tissue of interest, for example, gastrointestinal tissue, as well as other tissues.

Tissue stain and use thereof

Provided herein are submucosal lifting compositions and methods of using same. The submucosal lifting agents of the disclosure include a polysaccharide, a polyol, and a colorant.

Submucosal lifting compositions and methods of same

A chest drainage system including a collection device configured to receive fluid from the pleural cavity of a patient. A sensor is included to detect a pressure differential in the fluid. A display is configured to display a trend in occurrences of changes in pressure of the fluid over time in predetermined time increments based on a number of detections of pressure differentials that exceed a predetermined pressure differential during each of the predetermined time increments. The trend is correlative to the percentage of time that the patient is deemed to have an air leak in the pleural cavity in the predetermined time increments. The trend is derived from a ratio of the quantity of respiratory cycles of the patient for which the predetermined pressure differential is detected (QRC) in the predetermined time increments to the total quantity of respiratory cycles of the patient in respective predetermined time increments (QRC).

Chest drainage systems and methods

An endoscopic tool for facilitating injection of fluid into a submucosal layer of tissue includes a first cannula, a second cannula, and means for attaching the first cannula to a mucosal layer of tissue. The first cannula has a distal end and a proximal end opposite the distal end. The second cannula is adapted to be coupled to a source of fluid and carries a needle at a distal end thereof. The means for attaching the first cannula to the mucosal layer draws the mucosal layer, which enlarges the submucosal layer. Fluid is then injected into the enlarged portion of the submucosal layer via the needle, thereby creating a raised portion of tissue around the injection site.

Endoscopic tool for facilitating injection of a fluid into a submucosal layer of tissue

A dialysis system including a disposable fluid pumping cassette including at least one flexible membrane attached to a housing and at least one port extending from the housing, the at least one port including a spike; at least one dialysis fluid supply in fluid communication with at least one tubing and tubing connector; an autoconnection device including a shuttle for moving the at least one tubing and tubing connector towards the spike of the at least one port, the autoconnection device including at least one lead screw in mechanical communication with the shuttle, a motor and power transmission equipment to transmit power from the motor to the at least one lead screw; and a controller programmed to operate the motor to move the at least one tubing and tubing connector towards the spike of the at least one port of the disposable fluid pumping cassette.

Dialysis system having an autoconnection mechanism

An endoscopic tool for facilitating injection of fluid into a submucosal layer of tissue includes a first cannula, a suction source, a fluid lumen, and a second cannula. The first cannula has a suction surface disposed at a distal end, and defines a suction lumen. The suction source is coupled to the first cannula and creates a negative pressure within the suction lumen. The second cannula is disposed in a fluid lumen separate from the suction lumen, is adapted to be coupled to a source of fluid, and carries a needle at a distal end thereof. The tool draws the mucosal layer via the suction, which enlarges the submucosal layer, and injects a fluid into the enlarged portion of the submucosal layer via the needle, thereby creating a raised portion of tissue around the injection site.

A system for automatically connecting tubing to a medical fluid machine includes at least one fluid container including a tube having a cap on an end of the tube, a shuttle configured to receive the tube, a driving mechanism configured to translate the shuttle, a cap removal device configured to remove the cap from the end of the tube, and a control unit programmed to cause (i) the driving mechanism to translate the shuttle holding the tube in a first direction towards the cap removal device so that the cap removal device can engage the tube cap, (ii) the driving mechanism to translate in a second direction away from the cap removal device so that the cap removal device removes the cap from the end of the tube, and (iii) the driving mechanism to translate the shuttle in the first direction with the cap removed from the tube so that the tube can be mated with the medical fluid machine.

A dialysis disposable sterilization apparatus includes a connector and a protective cap fitted to the connector. The apparatus also includes a sealing ring provided by one of the protective cap or the connector, the sealing ring forming a seal between the cap and the connector, the seal capable of holding pressure. The apparatus further includes a stabilization rib provided by the connector, the stabilization rib positioned and arranged to (i) tend to prevent the protective cap from vibrating about the sealing ring and (ii) enable a sterilizing gas to flow past the stabilization rib to contact the sealing ring.

A dialysis system includes a dialysis machine including at least one fluid pump, and an autoconnection mechanism including a moveable holder; a plurality of pierceable connectors each held by the moveable holder of the autoconnection mechanism, each of the pierceable connectors in fluid communication with a source of medical fluid; a plurality of spikes each held fixed by the dialysis machine, each of the spikes in fluid communication with a disposable component that is positioned and arranged to operate with the at least one fluid pump; and wherein the moveable holder is moved automatically by the autoconnection mechanism, so that (i) the spikes pierce the pierceable connectors and (ii) the sources of medical fluid can communicate with the disposable component positioned and arranged to operate with the at least one fluid pump.

Dialysis system having autoconnection

A chest drainage system includes a collection device and a fluid pathway configured to extend from the collection device to a patient. The fluid pathway has a proximal portion configured to extend proximally toward the patient and a distal portion configured to extend distally from the patient. The chest drainage system also includes a pressure source including an accumulator configured to selectively provide sub-atmospheric pressure to the distal portion of the fluid pathway and a valve configured to selectively relieve pressure in the proximal portion of the fluid pathway. The system is configured to open the valve and to introduce the sub-atmospheric pressure from the accumulator of the pressure source when a predetermined pressure differential is detected between the proximal and distal portions of the fluid pathway.

A medical fluid system including: fluid containers and a tube extending from same, each tube including a cap; a pumping cassette including port spikes; a medical fluid machine including: occluders; a shuttle configured to receive the tubes, wherein each tube is associated with one of the occluders; a driving mechanism translating the shuttle; a cap removal device between the cassette and the shuttle; and a control unit programmed to cause: (i) the occluders to pinch their tubes, (ii) cause the driving mechanism to translate the shuttle towards the fluid pumping cassette, the cap removal device engaging the tube caps, (iii) the driving mechanism to translate the shuttle away from the fluid pumping cassette and cap removal device, pulling the tube caps off of the tubes, and (iv) the driving mechanism to translate the shuttle back towards the fluid pumping cassette for the port spikes to spike the occluded tubes.
