In some examples, a transport cylinder for transporting a sheet-format substrate includes at least one channel extending on an outer surface of the transport cylinder in an axial direction. Each channel includes at least one gripper, which is supported on a shaft, for holding a substrate on the outer surface of the transport cylinder. Each channel is covered by a respective cover at the outer surface of the transport cylinder. The cover and/or a shaft supporting the at least one gripper may include a cooling unit. In some examples, a drying unit that includes the transport cylinder may further include an electron beam for curing a printing fluid on a substrate on the transport cylinder. In some examples, a printing press may include the drying unit including the transport cylinder.

Multiple printing couples print the unprinted printing substrate in an indirect planographic or in a letterpress printing method in one or more printing nips. In a conveyor line, between the feed device and the first printing nip located in the printing substrate path, at least one inspection device, which is embodied as a transmissive inspection device, is provided for inspecting the as yet unprinted printing substrate.

A controller and one of a switching and an adjusting device, which are connected to the controller for signaling purposes, are provided. The controller and the one of the switching and adjusting devices are used to operate multiple or all of the drying elements during a stationary active operating state such that each of the drying elements is pulsed, i.e. is individually clocked between an 'off' switching state and an 'on' switching state.

A printing press for security printing has an Orloff offset printing unit comprising a plurality of stencil cylinders which can be inked, in each case, by an associated inking unit, an ink-collecting cylinder which interacts with the plurality of stencil cylinders, an Orloff plate cylinder which interacts with the ink-collecting cylinder, a transfer cylinder which interacts with the Orloff plate cylinder, and an impression cylinder which forms a printing point with the transfer cylinder. At least the transfer cylinder which interacts with the Orloff plate cylinder in the thrown-on position is included by a first printing unit section and is mounted in or on a first part frame. The ink-collecting cylinder is included by a second printing unit section and is mounted in or on a second part frame which is different from the first part frame. The first and the second part frame can be moved optionally into a first relative position with respect to one another, which forms a working position, and into a second relative position with respect to one another which forms a maintenance position. In the maintenance position, a space is formed between the first and the second printing unit section and/or between the first and the second part frame, which space ensures direct access at least to the ink-collecting cylinder, to the Orloff plate cylinder and to the transfer cylinder which interacts with the Orloff plate cylinder. Moreover, the invention relates to a method for changing a printing forme and for starting production.

Rotational bodies of a printing press with at least a first, a second and a third ink-conducting rotational body, which interact with each other in pairs, can be set in a thrown-on position. The second of the at least three rotational bodies can be set both against the first of the three rotational bodies and against the third of the three rotational bodies in order to form a two-sided thrown-on position. Tracking, coupled in a defined way, of the rotational axis of the second rotational body takes place at the same time as a radial positional change of the rotational axis of the first rotational body, by the superimposition of two movements along two non-congruent movement paths which run in a plane which is perpendicular with respect to the rotational axis. Method and device for setting ink-conducting rotational bodies of a printing press

A method of mounting and adjusting a printing plate on a plate cylinder of a multicolor offset printing press is described. The printing plate is clamped between front and rear clamping bars, the rear clamping bar being movable under the application of a tensioning force and occupying, upon clamping of the trailing end of the printing plate, a tension-release position. Tensioning of the printing plate is carried out by initially applying a nominal tensioning force to the rear clamping bar. A print register of the tensioned printing plate is then measured and compared to a target print register to determine a corrected tensioning position of the rear clamping bar corresponding to the target print register. The tension of the printing plate is thereafter released. The correct tensioning position is set as new reference position of the rear clamping bar before or after tensioning again the printing plate.

Method of mounting and registering a printing plate on a plate cylinder of a multi-color offset printing press

The invention relates to a method for arranging a printing plate onto a plate cylinder that has a channel in which a front and a rear clamping device are arranged. The rear clamping device is part of a slide that is arranged to be movable towards the front clamping device along a clamping path. In a first phase of the clamping process, the slide, together with a rear printing plate end that is clamped into the rear clamping device, is moved towards a first channel wall, and the printing plate is thereby clamped. In a second phase of the clamping process, the printing plate is released again, and the at least one slide is moved away from the first channel wall and towards a second channel wall. In a third phase of the clamping process, the slide, together with the rear printing plate end that is clamped into the rear clamping device, is again moved towards the first channel wall, and the printing plate is thereby clamped.
