A polymer filtration apparatus for sealing a slide plate translatable across a bore of an extrusion or mold machine, includes an annular seal having a sealing surface which is biased against the slide plate by a spring mechanism. The annular seal has a thrust surface which is angled relative to the sealing surface and the thrust surface is located at an opposite axial end of the annular seal from the sealing surface. The spring mechanism can be a single spring with overlapping tangs or a multiple spring assembly in overlapping relationship, with or without tangs, to form a continuous barrier. The spring assembly is used to exert a radial force against the thrust surface of the annular seal to bias the seal in an axial direction against the downstream slide plate. In operation, pressurized polymer melt in the extrusion bore further biases the spring against the annular seal which is then transferred to the seal and the slide plate.

A martial arts striking device and method of use that overcomes the relatively hard force impact and resistance disadvantages of all prior striking devices for martial arts, boxing, and physical fitness by allowing visibly targeted 'non-force impact' (meaning relatively less forceful impact) striking at relatively 'non-resistant contact' targets to enhance speed and power while using less effort. Said striking targets can be substantial in size and made of a lightweight flexible material or fabric that reacts with a spontaneous refresh rate when struck, thereby simulating a live opponent. In contrast to prior art objects, said striking device is light in weight, easier to mount, noiseless when used, and suitable for safe home use.

A buffer tube having therein a ribbon stack formed of optical fiber ribbons, and at least one filler ribbon provided on at least a top or bottom surface of the ribbon stack. The filler ribbon is provided to increase coupling between the ribbon stack and the buffer tube and to reduce fiber attenuation.

A system and method for providing a buffer tube. The system includes a crosshead that coats at least one optical fiber with a buffer tube coating; a vat that includes a fluid, the fluid within the vat cooling the buffer tube coating to form a buffer tube, and the vat being provided downstream of the crosshead; a pulling roller that pulls the cooled buffer tube, the pulling roller being provided downstream of the vat; and a jet provided within the vat. The jet jets a jetting fluid against the buffer tube coating so as to compresses the buffer tube coating in a region downstream of the jet.

A diagonal free space of the tube assembly being about 0.5 mm to about 5 mm. The diagonal free space is defined as the tube inner diameter minus the maximum diagonal length of the ribbon stack. The maximum diagonal length of the ribbon stack being the greater of either a diagonal measurement across lateral subgroups of the ribbon stack or a diagonal measurement across a major dimension of a medial subgroup of the ribbon stack.
