The polygonal grid comprises a plurality of paired polygons arranged symmetrically about a central polygon of the grid. In each polygon of the grid, the plurality of antenna elements is arranged in symmetrical pairs about a center point such that the first and second antenna elements of each symmetrical pair are complex conjugates of one another.

An electrical interconnect system includes a first circuit board that includes at least one via, and a conductor configured to transmit an electrical current therethrough. The conductor includes a first signal contact extending from a conductor first end, and a dielectric cylinder configured to receive the conductor therethrough. The dielectric cylinder includes a first bellows element extending from a first end of the dielectric cylinder that is positioned adjacent to the first signal contact. The first bellows element and the dielectric cylinder are configured to form a substantially continuous outer conductor, wherein the conductor and the first bellows are configured to electrically interface to the via and maintain connection thereto using a biasing force.

Electrical interconnect and method for electrically coupling a plurality of devices

An apparatus for simultaneous calibration and communication of active arrays of a satellite may include a base transmitter, a satellite receiver, a satellite transmitter, a base receiver, and at least one computer. The apparatus may simultaneously transmit and receive a calibration carrier and a communication carrier at different frequencies in order to calibrate the apparatus using the calibration carrier without interrupting the communication carrier. The use of different frequencies may avoid interference between the calibration and communication carriers.

Simultaneous calibration and communication of active arrays of a satellite

Embodiments include phased array antenna apparatus and methods of manufacturing them. In an embodiment, a phased array antenna apparatus includes at least one printed wiring board (PWB) (, FIG.) having multiple layers, at least one beamformer module () with at least one beam combiner/divider, at least one amplifier (), and at least one integral radiating element (). The PWB includes RF manifolds (, FIG.) embedded within the multiple layers between corresponding ports () of the beam combiners/dividers. The at least one integral radiating element is located proximate to an edge of the PWB and oriented in parallel with a bore-sight of the phased array antenna apparatus. In an embodiment, the beam combiners/dividers may include an H form combiner (, FIG.). An opening (, FIG.) in the PWB is adapted to enable the amplifier to directly contact a heat sink (), in an embodiment.

A frequency discriminator circuit that includes a signal shaping and power splitting circuit (20) responsive to a sinusoidal RF input signal for providing first and second substantially identical squarewave outputs having the same frequency as the sinusoidal RF signal, a digital delay line (19) responsive to the first squarewave output for providing a delayed replica of the first squarewave output, an exclusive OR gate (21) responsive to the second squarewave output and the delayed replica of the first squarewave output, low pass filters (23, 25) for averaging each of the inverted and non-inverted outputs of the exclusive OR gate, and a differential amplifier (27) for subtracting the outputs of the low pass filters from each other and providing an output indicative of the frequency of the RF input signal.
