Disclosed are methods for the preparation of alkyl hydroxyalkyl cellulose ethers, and the use of such alkyl hydroxyalkyl cellulose ethers in the preparation and use of mortars and other cement-based systems; also disclosed is a hydraulic composition containing at least one retarder, at least one accelerator and a cellulose ether having a prolonged open time without deterioration of the other cement tile adhesive properties such as workability, setting time, strength development and sag resistance; and further disclosed are dry mortars containing encapsulated calcium chloride used in preparing mortar materials for use in construction, and the preparation and use of such mortars in cold weather environments is also disclosed.

Alkyl hydroxyalkyl cellulose ethers, methods of making, and use in cements and mortars

A process is described for producing fermentable sugars derivable from biomass that contains polysaccharide, such as cellulose, made increasingly accessible as a substrate for enzymatic degradation or other methods of depolymerization. These fermentable sugars are subsequently able to be fermented to produce various target chemicals, such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones or acids.

Derivatized microfibrillar polysaccharide

A curable composition containing (A) a polyene having at least two hydrosilation reactive carbon-carbon double bonds; (B) a cyclic silicon compound, having at least two hydrosilation reactive .tbd.SiH groups; and (C) a linear silicon compound containing at least two .tbd.SiH groups, and having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R comprises at least one member selected from a group consisting of hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted saturated alkyl radical, and a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl radical, and R' comprises at least one member selected from a group consisting of hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted saturated alkyl radical, and a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl radical; m is an integer from about 25 to 1000, at least one R' is hydrogen; and the linear silicon compound is present in an amount of from about 5 to 95 weight percent, based on a total weight of silicon compounds present in the curable composition. The curable composition can contain a prepolymer. A cured composition comprises the reaction product formed upon subjecting the curable composition to conditions for polymerizing the polyene and the silicon compounds.

Curable and cured organosilicon compositions, and process for making same

Disclosed are novel, cross-linked or cross-linkable linear poly(organohydrosiloxanes) wherein the cross-linking units are derived from polycyclic polyenes. These polymers or prepolymers are prepared by reacting or partially reacting the poly(organohydrosiloxanes) with the polycyclic polyene in the presence of a catalyst.
